The childhood friend would and should be the smart choice.

It is understandable why most males would have a hard time choosing though. Its like going into a ice cream shop with over two hundred choices to choose from.

most see the child hood friend as sister or a relative in some sort. The only anime i know of to pull it off was love hina and AH my goddess. That aside I do agree with you on the last part but even negima the mega harem manga/anime has turned into scifi action/magic.

Absolutely no. They may be fun to watch but I couldn't deal with that.

it would be like heaven on earth
I sometimes feel like falcon punching or sparta kicking the main male character when they act like wimps

would be a great -and at the same time- horrifying if you're in the wrong harem. I would want to be Keitaro in Love Hina, even if I have to give up my body as a punching bag

With tsunderes and yanderes swarming around, not to mention danderes and kuuderes? That would be problematic to say the least. Also, the MC of a harem is usually some wimpy kid who's indecisive unless he has a chance to act heroic. Oh, and he'll constantly be beaten up by the jealous student body. And in the end, you'll make all the girls except for one heartbroken, unless there's a polygamy route.

Oh, I was not a fan of Love Hina. There was just too much abuse. Which is saying a lot since I like Full Metal Panic! FUMOFFU!! And Sousuke Sagara was getting his ass handed to him by a Kaname. But that was funny and FMP is not a harem(Thank goodness for that)

Hmmm, beautiful women turning a household into a frantic roller coaster of emotions.

That would have its ups and downs, but that's relationships in general. If you're going to be driven insane by your own out of control hormones might as well go full bore from the get go.

I'd probably enjoy the frantic lifestyle but, as is universally typical for male harem leads, I'd be paralyzed by indecision and my desire not to hurt any of the girls feelings. I know people rag on harem leads for being wusses, but cmon, when someone expresses their feelings for you its natural to want to reciprocate that kindness; the last thing you'd want to do is cause them to suffer. That's the way I see it anyway.

Which brings up an interesting point. I've always wondered what it would be like to have a twist to in which the lead is some kind of villain, and all the girls, hardly righteous heroines themselves, find themselves attracted to his ruthlessness and callous demeanor?

If done wrong it could turn into a disastrous recipe for chauvinism and misogyny, so perhaps its best to leave the harem lead the way he is.

It depends. If it were real girls, fuck no. Dealing with one is hard enough at times. A harem would just plain suck ass most of the time.

Anime? Sure why not. Common sense = happy ending. Most of the time.

qft

Well, it would bring a new life to the whole harem genre. I would watch, not gonna lie about that. Its different from what is the norm in harem anime. So I think it would be a great idea.

That's a great idea, chauvinists need some representation too...of course at some point the main character would fall back into line ergo some cathartic event where he realizes he actually has a heart and changes his villainous ways...no that would be a sucky scapegoat. seriously great idea though! It would be hard to pull off without seriously offending women but that said it would still probably be a guilty pleasure for me, and damn i just outed myself as a chauvinist um, um...Betty Friedan rocks!

Hehe. Good to know it's an idea other people are interested in. I write for fun, hopefully one day for moreso, and it's a plot hook I've been kicking around in my head for a while. Maybe I'll do some brain storming when I finish with my current project.

I mean, I like harem a lot; it wouldn't be a stretch to say its my favorite genre, but it'd be nice to see something other then the cookie cutter heart of gold character once in a while.
