I am in the middle of creating a Database of all my Anime (I'm in the middle of learning MS Access 2010 and this seems like a fun idea for practice) and I am trying to create a list of Anime Elements to help sort Queries by.

So far I've got

Mecha
Moe
Gar
Harem
Ecchi
Gender Swap

Added
Shonen
Shojo
vampires (seems I have a lot of Vampire shows)

I'm trying to figure out a good term characters like Yoko from Gurren Lagann, Miu and Shigure from Kenichi, Revie from Black Lagoon or Kagura from Gintama

basically a term for kick ass warrior women

Also suggestions of other elements I should include would be helpful.

(currently all ready under consideration; the various "-dere's" and Gainx Mind Fuck)

I'd definitely put in the classic shoujo and shonen. Then you could sub-catorgorize from there if you wanted

The way I have things set up so far is

Series Title

followed by a series of Drop boxes for
Primary Genre (Fantasy, SciFi, Comedy, Horror, etc....)
Release Type (TV series, OVA, Movie)
Rating (G,PG,14+,etc...)

Then how many volumes I have and if I have the complete series or not

and then a series of check boxes that I am using for Queries (the stuff I listed above)

The way it works is I can sort the list by the check boxes
So If I want a list of all my Shonen series I can create a query that shows every title that has the Shonen box checked

or if I want I can ask for a list of all Series with Mecha, Harem and Gender Swap elements (at present the result is Maze, but the list might increase in size over time )

i will help clairfy for some moe is an element in anime or part but not a genre. It's a the way a character acts or represents themselves in the series "mainly female characters but some male ones" that even some like lain from serials experiment lain. That aside I pretty much agree with the op has to say though.

Shonen-ai and Shojo-ai (Milder and far more tolerated versions of yuri and yaoi)
Josei and Seinen. (These two are just as important as shojo and shonen)

I also agree with an earlier post that you should classify them as being based off light novels, visual novels, manga, or being original content.

This is a rough of what I've set up so far

Drop down menus cover the basics with the list of check boxes on the side to help with searches. Some of the terms I am using are still up in the air (not going to use Mind Fuck for the final version)

Including ones for Source material is a good idea so I'll probably add that in as well.

I gather it's a recent definition, only just found out about it myself

a kuudere rounds out the dere family in a rather basic way. Allegorically speaking, a kuudere is like snow: it may be cold and harsh at first glance but it is also what keeps autumn's seeds warm and safe until spring.

Similarly, while she may appear apathetic and awfully pragmatic, it is but a frosty mask that protects her tender, delicate feelings deep underneath the facade, waiting for someone to melt the snow and allow them to spring. A subtrope of the tsundere, the kuudere avoids combative and immature demeanor; rather, she employs more subtle tactics:

Seinen, Josei...?

Also if you have loli you need shota.

Yaoi/Yuri, as well.

If you have that kind of system you might want to rate each series, since if it were me I'd be thinking "I /did/ read this one but I didn't like it...? Should I add it y/n?"

You might want to have a "strong female" tag for that.

That's the one I've settled on for now. Originally I was using Gun Bunnies, but I wanted something that applied to the whole array of awesome anime girls, so for now it's Amazons unless I come up with something better
