I hate it whenever CR asks if I want to link with FB. Why does everything have to be about FB?

The Collector's Edition looks interesting, though.

Thanks to this competition I now have over 70 of your real names. By the end of this competition I hope to know the true names of over 1000 of you. With both your Crunchyroll alias and a real name, it's only a few short steps to your credit cards and identity theft. Thankyou Crunchyroll for giving me this information.

Not really, but seriously Crunchyroll, please be smarter about this kind of thing. By doing this over Facebook, you are literally forcing us to reveal our true identity. Some people don't care, but a lot of people do. Our alias protects us.

I don't think most of you realise just how risky this can be.

Edit: Having looked into this some more, I now know the locations of 5 of the first 10 people to post on this. By the end of this competition, there might be over 1000 comments, which is probably underestimating it. So let's say that at the end of this, I have the real names, Crunchyroll Alias, and location of over 500 members. It would be EASY to then get their phone numbers. If I then called them pretending to be a member of crunchyroll staff, or even shinji himself, asking about credit details because of a maitenence or something, sure, 90% or more would wise on to me, but some of you would fall for it.

Alternatively, what if I called these people telling them that they had won the prize, and just needed a few details to finalize the win? Again, even if only 1% fell for it, that's 5 peoples credit details I have. Don't think that someone who steals a credit card will just steal your money. They will take your entire identity away from you and ruin your life.

Don't let your life get ruined by a hyped up promotion.

Crunchyroll, this is such a huge security risk, you NEED to do something about it.

I think it needs to be made clear if we post on the actual CR page or the on The Witcher competition post.

I wouldn't consider knowing a person's real name and username as a huge security risk. We even have people link their Facebook account to their Crunchyroll account which shows their facebook name and a link to their facebook profile. If they're on facebook and not privatizing their profile, they are responsible for protecting themselves. I don't privatize mine since I know how to protect myself.

Don't underestimate how easy it is to get someones details. First I had just their alias. Thanks to linking this to facebook, I now have their Alias and their name. Just by opening the pages of the first 20 participants in your competition, for half of them I have their general current location, and for a few more, even the university they're currently attending. With further prying and use of public internet resources, I could probably get half of those people's phone numbers. From the phone number it's a short step to home address.

Knowing just their alias is not a huge risk.
Knowing just their alias and real name is not a huge risk.
Knowing just their alias, real name and general location is not a huge risk.
Knowing just their alias, real name, general location and phone number is not a huge risk.
Knowing just their alias, real name, phone number and street address is not a huge risk.

At what point do you draw the line in personal security?

Well there is the saying "The best kept secret is one that you keep yourself." I guess it's how comfortable you are with strangers knowing a certain level of personal info (ie: name, A/S/L, etc.). Not really related with the quote, but hey, if you don't want people to know, simply don't post it. Then there's some other things and a certain site that freaks the heck of out of some people...

Also, whoever wins the digital prize, will there be a choice of which service the winner can pick? Like I prefer GoG, because it's DRM free. But someone else might like Stream more, because of its Stream Cloud feature (ie: being able to continue your game on any computer you want).

When did this thread become a facebook hate group? if you hate facebook, just ask to offer a different way to enter a competition instead of trying to spread your hate. I'm not a fan of facebook myself but I use it to stay in touch with family members and friends from high school.

speekma, you're over exaggerating. Go to any group page on Facebook and you can find out information about anyone who hasn't properly secured their profile.

For one, you're in Australia so unless you can spoof a number with an SF area code you're not going to get very far for those who realize that. Secondly, no one lists their phone number on CR so a phone call about "credit details" or maintenance isn't even plausible.

You're crying wolf and yet your CR profile says you're a 26 year old Male living in Australia, you also list your religious views and Zodiac signs, so considering your age, an approximation of what month and year you were born on could be guessed at. Unless of course you've lied for all of those details in which case my point is moot. However, based on what's been said in your guestbook, your location most likely isn't a lie.

Like BasouKazuma mentioned, it's the responsibility of each individual to protect themselves. I don't see the purpose of posting in this thread about privacy concerns. Bring it up with Shinji or create a post in the forums.

On topic:
Due date was today, does that mean we still have to wait the full day and winners will be drawn tomorrow, or will they be drawn today? Really looking forward to the results *fingers crossed*.
