Can Playing Card Games Leads To Gambling?
Posted 3/8/11
So,can seemingly innocent card games like Crazy 8's, Speed, Goldfish actually lead to gambling?
Just out of curiosity, wanted to hear your thoughts.

It leads to violence.

When I play gold fish, and my sister takes my Eight, I punch her in the face.

There's nothing wrong with gambling imo, some people have more willpower than others and its wrong to judge those people amongst the ones that can't control themselves.

Anyway, card games are fun and can improve your thinking skills and reaction speed.

Yea, that line of thinking is similar to the argument that playing violent video games can lead to violent crimes. I don't buy it one bit.
Politicians who said this and paid the scientists to say the same were just garnering for votes at the time. I believe (and this opinion is shared by some criminologists) that the person and their decision to commit violent crimes are the only factors which cause violent crimes. Means, opportunity and motive - criminology 101.

In Summation:
Playing a video game is not a motive for violent crime. playing a video game cannot cause someone to become mentally unstable to commit a violent crime. however, playing a video game can TRIGGER someone who is mentally unstable to begin with. SO, if you know your kid is mentally unstable BEFORE buying them Grand Theft Auto 13, DON'T FUCKING BUY IT! Read him/her a story instead...

Now, take everything I've said about video games and replace it with card games [edit] and gambling [/edit]... Theres your answer!

No, I play card games (Watten, Arschloch, Schafkopf) every day in school, but I am also a very sparing person, so I wouldn't ever play with money.

If there is something at stake, then there is a possibility it can.

Card games can easily lead to gambling considering that there are a few card games in casinos. Not crazy 8's or anything like that but if you can gamble on it somehow, somewhere, someone has. (You all like that little three word rhyme?) Not saying that gambling itself is a bad thing, but uncontrolled addiction to it has proven itself to be a financial nightmare.

In my house, Tic Tac Toe leads to gambling - but only with quarters. They add up lol, I got 5 bucks off my mom when I was 14 <3

Yes.

In the same way that caffeine can lead to cocaine.
