Landslide, rocks are falling,
Falling down 'round our very heads,
We tried but you were yawning,
Look again, rock is dead, rock is dead, rock is dead.

That was the first thing that popped into my head after reading the title of the thread. So long as you enjoy the music I don't think it matters how popular it is. I don't foresee my interest in prog rock (and Romantic period music) fading anytime soon.

i think the term rock is too vague because rock covers lots of genre...there are heavy metal, soft rock, pop-rock and many others..so i dont think rock is dead..because there are many music that incorporates the spirit of rock...^_^

Rock will never be dead, it just doesn't get as much attention as crap like that girl Just Beiber gets. All about the money. Rock/Metal > all

Rock never dies
it rests when it needs
Underground in its slumber...

as for everything else? well.... they're just the kind of things the change like the seasons. They'll probably die. Right now? I see Rock, Electronic (Techno w/e) and traditional music as things that will never die. Oh yeah, Original rap from back in the day died a long time ago, anything after that is a fail in comparison. Besides Rock has many more branches then you would expect. Pop could never expand it borders. And now with the merging of genres its only getting worse...

Well, these days if you want to hear decent music you certainly can't just turn the radio or music channels on anymore. Basically, if it's not trendy or cool to the younger kids (the demographic that has complete control over the mainstream music industry), nobody will bother to market it. Why market a less popular genre when you can throw some dime-a-dozen tween wave at them and watch the cash flow in? At least we have the internet to find good stuff, though. There is plenty of rock out there, you just have to look for it (like all good music, it takes an effort on our part to find).

To be honest though, as into the grunge scene as I was in the 90's, Post-rock is my favorite genre these days. Rock just doesn't really do it for me anymore. I look for music with a bit more depth and originality, rather than a rinse and repeat chorus and 3-cord progressions.

Yeah, unfortunately, Rock is dead by most of the part. Now it's time of electronic/half-electronic Pop, modern R&B and House. And the worst thing, everything is in style that is called "commercial". In other words everybody make only to earn more money. There's no more true passion on MTV and channels like that, but everything sounds the same. Even Rock got "commercialised" so you won't find much of good Rock on MTV.
Oh well, there are sources of less popular but really passionate music. You can find some great rock there, but not many people will listen to it.

P.S. As for music I like, I bet nobody reading this has ever HEARD of it.

Lady Gaga is awesome. there is nothing wrong with Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne IS talented however... the i am music tattoo on his temple does kind of make me want to stick an ice pick through it. and i really don't appreciate rappers talking about stupid ass child things and our youth seeing them and believing "yes selling drugs gets you rich and killing people is cool" meanwhile half the rappers that talk about murdering people all the time never even held a gun never mind pointed one at someone. Rock is NOT dead. its just that people get this stupid music shoved down our throats at the mall, and in convenience stores and think that's what everyone is listening to. its not. it is merely heard music...these rappers and pop stars are fake and made by human hands. they do have degrees of talent...still though it is a man made illusion that they are great. The Beatles were great, Metallica was great. they did not have hand of god type of money behind them and they still made the entire world go WOW. Metallica didn't even advertise Master of Puppets and that album went platinum 6 times WITHOUT RADIO PLAY. that's what rock stars do. they fly ON THEIR OWN. they don't require multi billion dollar companies to recreate them and push them all over everything. Rock....dead? No, my friends she's just been on vacation. or perhaps the very spirit of rock is not something that the establishment doesn't want. Rock and Roll caused the 70s...Maybe they'd rather have the kids numb themselves with superficial beliefs so that their easier to control when they're adults... but hey that's crazy!
