1. What are your opinions on news/media coverage of rape and other sexual or violent crimes?
2. Do you have an opinion on media picking apart the victim, putting the victim to blame?
3. Can an 11-year old or other pre-teen/child ever consent to sex?
4. Is it ever okay for a minor under 13 to have sex with older boys/men?
5. Opinions on the article below?

*Trigger warning*

This is a story about a child who was kidnapped by an adult and forced to have sexual intercourse with a large number of men. The act was recorded and somehow made its way back to her elementary-school classmates. These are the events that McKinley, Horswell and other reporters should be writing about - not about the town's economic decline, and certainly not what the neighbors think about the victim or her mother.

I don't read news anymore for multiple reasons, this included. Everything written within news is devoted to generate interest and profit. News reporters are no better than your average paparazzi...in fact they're worse because they don't know how annoying they are.

We all feed on tragedy. The misfortune of others makes us feel secure. When we see horrors in the media, we become morbidly fascinated and joyful by the pain of others. This is only, of course, if you yourself are suffering.

there was a similar story here although the victim in the case here was 15-18ish and at a rave/party the facts are somewhat the same in that the victims of rape and other sexual violence are always painted as the evil ones and the morons that committed the acts against them were just misunderstood good guys/girls that wouldnt harm their neighbours cat. its disgusting to me how society really hasnt change in a positive light and that the old stand by about rape being always the victims fault is pretty tiresome. saddly i'd have to say that the 19yr old guy who "kidnapped" the girl couldnt have been someone she didnt know or at least that is the conclusion i get from reading the article thats not to say that the events are her fault just that he had to be someone she was semi familar with to a point but then again perhaps i misread the whole story and he was a complete stranger to her that just forced her into his car. either way its sick :S

1. Sometimes I think the information they give us on such coverages are only partly true. Call me paranoid if you wish but that's just how I think of the media these days.
2. There were a couple of times that I thought the media should leave the victim alone. After all, some of them have been through a lot and aren't ready to talk about such things so freely. Most of them display the victim as a sort of pathetic fellow anyway.
3. There have been moments in the past that showed that some have so it's possible.
4. No. Normally age wouldn't bother me much but a minor under 13? I just don't think it's right.
5. Quite shocking. I've heard of many articles that covered rape but this stunned me. To think that an 11-year-old was raped by 18 people.... It's disturbing. Though it makes me wonder why the girl didn't refuse the man. When I was around that age, most children have already been taught to avoid strangers no matter what they say.
