The anime series is called "Tokyo Magnitude 8.0" and it aired in Japan in 2009. The series is based on the prediction that Tokyo would be hit by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake (or higher) within the next thirty years. The odds were at 70%.

While what happened in New Zealand was a tragedy, they were hit by a garden variety 6.3.

Yes, as someone stated, it was 8.9 magnitude earthquake I think. God help the Japanese people (but we gotta put in the effort).

That's some uncanny sh*t..

It was horrifying seeing those motorist trying to outrun that big wall of mud. You knew they were going to die no matter what. That didn't sit too well with me. I'm going to a fundraiser tonight.

I'm hearing reports saying that the Sendai Earthquake was about 8,000x MORE powerful than the Christchurch Earthquake.

Furthermore, I'm also worried about a few more of my BFF's relatives that are currently residing in Fukushima-ken. I'm hearing terms like "Three Mile Island" being thrown around.

I only said 8.0 to make a reference to the anime Tokyo Magnitude 8.0.
In reality, it really is on the Richter scale of 8.9.
The scale is not linear but of logarithmic nature.
Therefore, compared to New Zealand's Christchurch Earthquake of 6.3,
The Japanese Sendai Earthquake is almost over 9000 times more powerful.
No pun intended.

Incredible. I've heard the Hawaiian volcanoes have shown more activity now than for some time, it seems the pacific plate is shifting, what with two earthquakes, one only somewhat weaker than the strongest one ever recorded, and more active volcanoes? The ring of fire does not seem to be a safe place right now. My heart goes out to all of the people affected, and I sincerely hope they are spared more devastation.

It was horrible when I watched the news yesterday morning and it showed lorries and cars trying to get across a bridge before the wave hit them and they were not successful :/ It was unreal to see people be swept away by it along with all the houses. Pray for all the lives lost and for everyone who has been effected in Japan ♥
