On March 19, the moon will be closer to the earth than it has been in 18 years. There have also been predictions of huge storms, earthquakes, and volcanos from it. Do you think it has any impact on what happened in Japan or was it a coincidence?

I'm not sure about this one. I heard the moon affects the tides because of its gravitational pull to the earth, but I don't know if it can cause earthquakes.

More info:

Odd thing is that I think that news was posted before the disaster in Japan.

What difference does it make if it's full or crescent?

The only difference is that the sun, earth, and moon are perfectly aligned during that time. I don't know if it actually has any impact on the earth, but a full supermoon is rarer than any other supermoons.

The moon effects tides and other things, but as for causing really significant damage, not so much.

I say it will just looking breath-taking outside that night and shouldn't really make us worry, IDK.

I don't believe the moon had anything to do with Japan's predicament. We all learned how earthquakes and tsunami are caused in middle school. I can't wait to see the moon though. I'll make sure to take pictures, too.

I do not see any connection between the moon and the earthquake since moon has little, if any, influence on earthquakes.

Isn't the moon technically always full? We just can't see it because the sun isn't lighting up the other side.

The way I see it, it'll just be a pretty sight. Although it is possible the tides will be higher

Earthquakes and volcanoes have nothing to do with the moon. The moon only affects the ocean tides so I don't really care about this.
