1. What do you think of people who think like the girl in this video?

http://blog.bollzy.com/post/3853208492/god-is-so-good-via-tamtampamela <<New link, her video was taken down on youtube.
Though it's been confirmed she's a troll, there are people like her persona who exist out int he real world. So for the sake of discussion... comment on this type of thought, motivation, behavior in regards to religion, prayer, and intentions.

Synopsis, thanks to Sunnyxx , in case you can't watch it:

2. Do you think that prayer alone is helpful and/or 'enough'?

3. Does prayer relieve people of any obligations, or sense of obligation, to do something physical? (Like volunteer or donate money).

4. What about people who use prayer 'for the wrong reasons' ? Are there any wrong reasons to pray?

5. Do you pray? Do you believe in "the power of prayer"?

Answer any of these you want, or talk about something else related to the topic.
-- This question is mainly aimed at those who pray, regardless of religion or lack of, but those who do not pray should feel free to answer as well. I realize you don't have to believe in a deity or subscribe to a religion, in order to pray.

@Ghey World Vision does that?? :S

-
Regardless of what others think of this disasters , disasters are disasters and the first priority at the moment is to help the Japanese recover from this.Pretty much what Ghey said sums it up for me
-
how can she live with her self I mean really how can you wish bad upon anyone. She's are an awful person by thinking god
gave evidence to her that he's here for her and by praying more , more disasters will occur. Fuck that bitch >_> were already in a ecological crisis with all these earthquakes >:[.

I'm a protestant but I don't go over the edge to pray for smite , the impression that the girl is giving is that our religion prays for disasters like earthquakes that kill thousands of people and leave others homeless, to happen. This girl can rot in hell .___.

How about when it's a prayer WAVE for TSUNAMI victims?

I saw that shit on facebook. ._.

Prayer itself isn't bad, but I think sometimes it's not enough....

Praying is a way to pretend you're making a difference when you are not, but I suppose their intentions are good. They just aren't doing anything helpful.

I do not know this "Ghey" of which you speak of.

Perhaps he was some past user on this site who has his ass on Basou's wanted list.

But I assure you, I am not him.

When I hear someone say, "in my prayers" it makes me cringe for some reason. It's funny how we believe our prayers make a difference. It takes away the guilt and gives us a false sense of reassurance and lack of liability. Right now Japan needs more than clasped hands.

As for the person in the video, people like her are the reason why I no longer associate myself with religion. Who prays for the death of thousands of people just to convert atheists? Not only is her logic baffling, but truly disturbing. If you believe in God fine, but please do not force yours on me.

I think people who think like this girl are nuts, and I would think they misread or just put a religion of theirs into their own little concepts.

I think that prayers are really just something to boost the person doing the praying, I think it's just making them feel better; I don't believe praying actually does anything at all.

As for that girl, I think she's a little bit crazy. I'm pretty sure it says in the bible not to hate and to love, so why is she saying all these bad things about Atheists? Not to mention she says that it was good Japan was struck? How is that good?

Wow...
That girl in the video has a poor understanding on what is happening.

It's one thing to pray for people to believe in religion,
but to say that you were hoping for those deaths
in japan is really messed up.

The girl in this video is obviously mildly naive if she thinks that the deaths of thousands of people is a wake up call to atheists. I like how she contradicts what the bible says about god by saying he'll take his vengeance on America and Europe. I'm not entirely sure whether we should take this girl seriously or label her as an extremist. Cause that's how she came across to me. That or she's a puritan. Or there's also the possibility of trolling but I somehow doubt that.

Prayer can be helpful however I do not believe that it's enough to pray for for a cause or group or person and then do nothing else. Yes, god is a powerful being but you need to actually be willing to help others and not just ask god to do it for you.

I don't think it fully removes obligation from people. Prayer can do some interesting things but I think some people simply pray that god will help those in need and then go on with their lives as if everything was solved.

I'm not exactly sure if there is a "wrong reason" specifically. But I suppose selfish reasons could be considered as the wrong motivation. However I'd like to point out the girl in the video's implication that she's now praying for global disasters to punish and convert atheists who are fully free to choose whether they want to believe in god or not. And she also comes across as a 2012 end of the world believer.

Here's an edit for you: I now know of a wrong reason for prayer. Asking god to smite atheists across the globe. This girl is. Don't believe me? Check the video's description.

prayer is not really a bad thing per-say i do it myself but i am going to be blunt and honest it doesn't do anything. It's a self help tool to get in the mind set of making ones self feel better with out having to do anything. I understand the concept and the thought of keeping people in you mind and hoping things will get better but that's all it is a simple though of things getting better. The only course or real action is to really help those in need and try to help those out, i am not going to say anymore because It will start a flame war and my nerves are near shot as it is now.

Probably not.
I think the 2012 crap was invented by the mayans.

She probably does believe that she`ll one day see the rapture, but it wont be the mayans 2012.

I don't think the mayans intended for the restart of their calendar cycle, which if I'm remembering correctly is a bit like the Chinese zodiac (It restarts after a certain amount of time) so modern day people see that it ended and are automatically assuming that the world will end. Honestly? How in the hell can a culture that died off when the new world was found predict the end of the world?

I think that girl has a screw loose. I'm just glad that video had 73,000+ dislikes on it. Anyone who thinks their prayer was the cause of a country being affected that way should stop praying, not use that as an excuse to continue to pray. -_-

But guys.
While she may not be able to prove that the earthquake was caused by her prayer.
Can we prove that it wasn`t caused by her prayer?

Interesting point. I guess we can't know for sure.
