I'm sure some of you have already seen the Youtube video rant from the UCLA student, Alexandra Wallace about "Asians in the Library". Racism happens all the time, but that does not mean we condone it.

Link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1366132/Alexandra-Wallace-YouTube-racist-Asian-rant-day-Japan-tsunami.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
Video Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7B8xKVHPOlc&feature=related
Update Link: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/15/alexandra-wallace-receive_n_835949.html

Some excerpts from Ms. Alexandra Wallace, the UCLA student for readers who don't have time to click on the links, but I suggest you watch the video for her full rant to get the whole idea why she has received many criticism from others and the Asian community:

• So we know that I’m not the most politically correct person so don’t take this offensively.
• I don’t mean it toward any of my friends. I mean it toward random people that I don’t even know in the library.
• The problem is these hordes of Asian people that UCLA accepts into our school every single year.
• Their moms and their brothers and their sisters and their grandmas and their grandpas and their cousins and everybody that they know that they’ve brought along from Asia with them.
• You will always see old Asian people running around this apartment complex every weekend. That’s what they do.
• Hi, in America we do not talk on our cell phones in the library.
• Ohhhh, ching chong ling long ting tong. Ohhhhh.
• I swear they’re going through their whole families, just checking on everybody from the tsunami thing.
• Even if you’re not Asian you really shouldn’t be on your cell phone in the library but I’ve just never seen that happen before.
• So thank you for listening and have a nice day.

Ms. Alexandra Wallace has issued an apology (read updated link), but she has also received many death threats. The location of her exam date was posted for millions to see and she has feared for her life. Campus cops advised her to reschedule her exams in light of the threats.

My thoughts: I'm not shocked by her words. I understand racism is still alive and thriving. I'm just surprised by the fact that Ms. Alexandra Wallace chose to put herself out there by posting a video that can be seen by millions of people. It's basically asking to be judged. She made a poor judgement that will probably affect her future and if the students at UCLA don't know Alexandra Wallace, they ALL do now. How will she face the Asian students? After all, 40% of the students attending UCLA are Asians. Oh and there are talks about her being expelled, but I find that silly, why you ask? Because I feel she needs to take more classes and learn the ways of culture. She's too ignorant being stuck in her little self bubble world. What's your thoughts?

Edit: Btw, I also think making death threats is taking it too far.

Well, I'm not really surprised at her racism rant. What does surprise me though is that people have given her death threats about this. Honestly? Do we have nothing better to do in our world than to make people who do dumb things feel even worse about it. ANd how they hell did they find out her exam dates?

She ranted about it on the internet, instead of aiming it solely on the Asian community she has aimed it at the entire world. Dumb as fuck. I can't believe they got hold of her exam dates, whatever happens is wrong but lets face it, she had it coming.

That was just some really bad timing to be racist. I know there is never a good time to be racist, but to talk about Japan like that before even 1 week has gone by, it doesn't shock me in the least that people have threatened her. If she didn't want anyone to get offended by it, she should have made a video called "Don't talk on your cell phones in library's" and left the Asian part out. O_o

this sums up my facial reaction to her video. She is just a little self centered bitch and posted the video for attention, i shouldn't have watched it because doing so all I did was give her more hits on her damn page. Hell I would have done the same fucking thing if my country was in a horrible accident Jesus Christ.

My thoughts on this are:

1. How the hell did she get into UCLA being so ignorant? I have no idea what that University is like but it must not have very high standards for its sociology program lmao. I don't think she should take more university level classes. Given that she's lacking basic moral fiber, she should spend another year or two in elementary school.

2. How is it surprising that she got death threats? Seriously, anyone that's ever done anything controversial along these lines gets death threats. Especially if you offend a large community. All those news articles "Appalled by the violent reaction from the university" shouldn't make it sound like its very surprising.

3. Although I don't agree with what she did, she should've been at least smart enough to stay anonymous and not show her face, tell the world what university program she's enrolled in and in which specific university. She was asking for it.

i can understand why people are upset
but i can also understand the girl in the video. dont kill me please
after attending an all girl private school in canada for 12 years i see these people a lot
my school was divided by white and asian
and i am sorry but sometimes, due to miscommunication, there would be some pretty serious arguments
like "all asians do is study, and they dont participate in our grades spirit, all they do is speak in their language, they are weird and antisocial, all they do is talk on their phones." sometimes poeple would get nasty,
i dont know what asians said about the white girls but im sure it wasnt friendly.......
and honestly i would still believe all this if it wasnt because of having asian friends.
this girl isnt dumb, she just hasnt experienced other cultures. it is sad but by getting mad at her you are making the problem worse.

i shouldn't have watched it because doing so all I did was give her more hits on her damn page.

Actually that's not her page. She posted her video last Friday and took it down shortly but not before many viewers had already seen it, downloaded it and uploaded it again. Her Youtube and Facebook acocunt has been deleted among other sites she had. The videos you see are downloads other uploaded before she got rid of it. Now it's been made fun of and such. This is the internet, anything that is posted up can never truly be deleted. Some way, some how someone will find it and post it back up.

Freedom of Speech protects her, yet with freedoms there are consequences, and surely enough this happens. What confuses me is what possessed her to post it on the Internet? Either she didn't care or she's that stupid, whatever the case this incident will surely teach her to think before she speaks.

Wow, she was stupid enough to post that for the world to see. If her main point was that she didn't like people talking on their cell phones in the library, she could've just excluded mentioning it was purely Asian if she was smart enough to try not to offend anyone. I'm Asian so does that mean I talk on my cellphone every time I go to the library? Ching chong ling long O_o

What a dickwad. She had it coming >_> . Again another "the american way" not your way but our way. Love America <3 .
Another point is if her mother was in Japan I bet she would do the same thing like everyone else in the library and call her parents to make sure their ok, regardless where she/he is.

Your mother raised you good? My ass = =.

I really don't get why this blew up so much. People say stupid stuff all the time and the stuff about the library is kinda true. Do you have any idea how annoying it is to be trying to study and to have a group of people nearby that are all loudly chatting with each other and on their phones? and they're not talking to their families in Japan(and not all Asians are Japanese) they're talking to their friends about how the weekend went or where they're going to dinner, stupid stuff that they could take outside.
