Though Haruhi Suzumiha, Akira re-dub, Trigun, Wolf's Rain, Bleach, Durarara, and Code Geass are the most noted anime roles Johnny (I'm not counting games with anime graphics), his 2 biggest obviously have to be the last two. My question is, is Johnny better as Lelouch or Ichigo? Personally, because I haven't really seen the Japanese versions of the last 2 titles save for clips, I can't really say if his performances are so good that they exceed the Japanese.

Anyways, of Zero and Lelouch, could you explain why you feel he is better as either Lelouch or Zero? I know you are out there. That is, people who feel he exceeds his Japanese counterparts for these roles, explain why. Since English dubbing gets enough unwarranted/warranted bashing, I do enjoy seeing when a Japanese performance gets bashed (I've already expressed my disdain for Takahiro Sakurai as Cyborg 009's 2001 voice in other threads. If Rie Kugimiya has the most annoying voice I have ever heard in any Japanese or English version of anime, Sakurai is the most disappointingly sounding protagonist voice I have ever).

Again, please don't do any response along the lines of the response from this thread http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-697115/stephanie-sheh-orihime-vs-hinata. I know people will feel that way but I just don't want to read something I have read numerous times on other forums.

I'm not a fan of dubbing, and other than the childhood animes,I don't think I've watched a series in dub ever. Also, I'm of the general opinion that Japanese voices are far better than English voice actors.
But out of some impossible luck, I know who Johnny is and is faimilar with both his roles. Personally, I think that he suited Ichigo's character better, as Lelouch was more of a Byronic hero which doesn't go too well with Johnny's voice.
Good luck getting replies to this thread.

Ichigo, i actually thought he was okay with that. But lelouch? No, just no.
LELOUCH doesn't sound nearly as epic

Besides japanese voices sound better anyways

Jun Fukuyama was perfect fit lelouch. Japanese is better

Johnny's a great voice actor. But I think I'll go and say he's better as Lelouch. It's been a while since I've watched Bleach in dub, but Johnny's booming voice in Code Geass was brilliant. His voice really fitted the character, and it was just amazing. The loud booming voice of his that really drove into your mind really leaves a good impression on the dub for Code Geass. I prefer it over the Japanese dub because I think Johnny's performance outperforms Jun Fukuyama's albeit Jun Fukuyama did a really great job as well.

not that his Lelouch was bad it's just that his voice seemed to fit Ichigo better

Im not getting kinky or out.

Really? Didn't he do watsnuki? He sounded different. But either way, his voice was well done with lelouch which made ALL his popularity. Basically none if his other characters mattered :p and his laugh? Oh my god amazing

Personally I prefer him as Lelouch. Lelouch has a much wider range of emotions to portray, whereas Ichigo is just a lot of grunting and shouting. I've listened to the original Japanese and I thought that he did an excellent job with the character, I actually thought his voice suited Lelouch nicely.

In any case, my personal favorite role of his is Renton Thurston from Eureka Seven. The reason for this is that, as opposed to most of his roles, Renton's typical voice is so different from Johnny's own regular voice. I was actually shocked when I discovered that the guy who did Ichigo and the guy who did Renton were the same person, which is how I came to know about Johnny in the first place. It really shows his range as a voice actor, that he's able to do deep and serious voices like Lelouch, and also the close to breaking voice of a young teenage boy. That's the reason why he's my favorite voice actor.

Finally people, cool it with the insulting of your own language already. I'll be the first to admit that some dubs are just terrible, but plenty of others do a great job with voicing their characters. What I have noticed is that most of what is done by Bandai tends to be much better dubbed than that which is done by their competition. Not to say that that's true all of the time. I would recommend, if you ever get the chance, try watching an anime with the English dub from the beginning, you might find you don't hate it as much without hearing the Japanese beforehand to color your opinion.

The problem with that is that most people that constantly watch subs and fansubs have done it for long enough that they would already be going in with the "this is going to suck" mindset. I am rather confident, however, that if they were asked to score the dub afterward, they would give a higher (although no doubt still low) score to a series where they had watched the entire series in dub format first, than one where they had watched it as a sub first.
