So I recently found out that FUNimation is censoring the release of an anime called "Dance of the Vampire Bund" even on it's DVD release. I used to have really great respect for this company but this shredded all of it. Censoring is wrong but understandable for TV releases, but censoring DVD's is just wrong.

This will be a very bad move for FUNimation because anyone who is a fan of this anime will NOT stand for this and buy this crap from FUNimation (I have not seen this anime but I stand against ANY form of censoring for ANY reason).

If the reason was SO great that they would destroy their reputation to release this anime in it's butchered form, then it would probably have been a good idea to just leave it alone in the first place.

UPDATE: FUNimation announced today that it will NOT be censored. I'm not going to change anything about my original post in case anyone wants to know what I was talking about originally... (I hate when I search for information on something and someone changed the original post to say something like "ah ok! its solved! nvm nvm!" o:

I watched it on (REMOVED. Do not advertise other sites on cr~ForumMod) and if they cencored it worse than the release was done then that is just terribly sucky. Would be like with Sekirei where they already have the fog or glare cencering and just plugging in some wasky shots instead. I really see no reason to be cencoring Vampire Bund especially if its already a mature series and really not many kids would be watching that.

did you even read that article? it states "we are evaluating the release of the series in unedited and uncensored form for home video" which means they are, like I said, "thinking about it"

Well dont know what to tell ya. this stuff is a year old already and the only way to know if its edited or not is to get the DVD, but if you already commited to not getting Funimations version or been confirmed to it being Edited then just watch or download the series online. Now if your wanting the uncensored English dub then your out of luck then.

it's not about wanting to watch it. it's about the fact that a company who has sworn against censoring DVD's would do such a thing

The problem they face is that the anime is really Mature, I mean MATURE if you read the manga then you'll know what im talking about and it being directed to 18 year old + for both manga and anime. Some scenes in the anime promote naked lolicon girls which would be break some rule that was made by the FCC, now if it imported thats different but if a big company like Funimation was selling stuff like that then Funimation gets in BIG trouble and soon ALL anime we know would be censored up to the ears like shitty 4kids.

Funimation has to maintain its reputation for what they sell currently and is already pushing the limits on what they can or cannot release in the US because of the FCC.

Either way, reason being is that there is a Higher Law in place keeping Funimation from releasing/attaining some series.

i was never a big fan of funimation dubs but wouldnt they be allowed to release uncensored dvds with an appropriiate age rating?. thats what the fcc is there for isnt it?. they review the series and then tell the publishers what rating it requires for a release. atleast thats what i know of.

That in there lies the problem, the FCC must of approved it with Stipulations Funimation must do otherwise no green light.

i see but i thought they would have told funi to give it an AO rating in that case right? or is the anime itself far too boundary breaking for even an AO rating? i haven't seen the anime so i don't know exactly how bad it is. personally im thinking of what happened with the manhunt 2 game. it would have been left in its original state if rockstar had given it an AO rating as far as my knowledge goes.

And when was the last time anyone really paid attention to an age rating?

While the material in "Dance" doesn't quite venture in X-rated territory, it does venture close to 'unintentional child pornography' if Mrs Grundy (Heinlein reference) chooses to think so. When your lead female character is a 300 year+ vampire who happens to look not a day over 11 or 12, having her run around nearly naked on screen just ain't gonna fly in the States.

And yes, I follow the manga, and have seen the series on Hulu - the manga in general is much better.

Funimaiton has to maintain Standards and so far to my knowlege iI dont recall Funimation ever releasing an AO only anime.

Keep in mind its not as ecchi or even remotely hentaish its starting to sound like, unlike some anime/mangas out there (*cough* AirGear) its the dialogue of whats being said and where its being said in some scenes its what pushes the rating.

Best Example is a
but that kind of mature.
