youtube is partnered with google. google has this thing called googleads which generate revenue which in return google pays a portion of said revenue to the person who's video has the ads placed on. the amount the person receives is based on viewers watching the video. in retro spec if enough people are to watch the video then it can add up to almost the amount of donations that CR has generated thus far.
edit: also this is a good way for those that can't donate to spread the video around to generate viewers to generate money to help with the japan relief fund

I totally cried watching this video. I know friends over there that are suffering and that have even died so anything about japan makes me an emotional wreck right now. The video and message was really sweet so it was a good cry.
