Its basically a gutted, stripped down, bare essentials computer with a custom Linux distro called Roku OS.
Anything the Roku can do, a computer can do, but not vice versa.
Roku just makes a user interface so simple even a caveman can use it.
That's a good thing for me. I've been around anime long before the start of toonami and I began bittorrenting anime from oldschool fansubbers since 2003. After that streaming anime since the revolution that was youtube. I am tired with dealing with communities, selection boxes, and anything that makes me feel like I am using a PC to watch anime. I've always preferred the old ways of watching anime on the television.
It's a nice change of pace to have something that is actually built for the TV from the ground up. It gives me the sense that the anime I am watching from the CR app is actually MEANT to be watched on the TV. I could use the family PS3 downstairs but scaling the viewing size, ect, is all browser based which is what I am glad to have gotten away from.
All that and the fact that my bro has a netflix account that he lets me log into. The Roku can be used for other things like radio, music, podcasts, tv eps, and movies. so with all of those other features, Roku is a good deal for many people.
