Govt defends planned road tax rise
2011-03-24 HKT 16:16
The government has defended its budget proposal to increase first registration tax for private cars by 15 percent. The Under Secretary of Transport, Yau Shing-mu, says the rise is designed to curb the growth of private cars. There's growing opposition among some lawmakers against the increase. Civic Party legisaltor Audrey Eu said, a higher tax would also mean more dirty cars remaining on the roads.
