What do you think the percentage is of Japan's population that watches Anime.
Being an idiot of the United States I would assume Anime is about as popular as America's numerous CSI/Law & Order/"Reality" shows. But I'd rather not assume, so I'm asking you, the community, what you think.
Would appreciate it if someone who actually lives in Japan or has been there for an extended period of time to comment for more accurate information. Thanks!

I'm not sure about anime' but the men seem like to read a lot of manga.

They'll buy it and then leave it around for the next person to read on the train or whatnot. It's pretty cheap there.

I'm sure a decent amount of people watch. Personnally, I know many japanese girls that watch anime. All my Japanese male friends usually don't.
P.S. I am from Japan but I go to college in California because engineering is just better there.

It's likely a percentage much higher than we might think.

My cousins in Japan watch a lot of anime/read manga. But I don't know... it's not like anime is the only thing Japanese people watch.

Im gonna say no.
Otaku is looked down minority in the anime culture.
And im guessing the anime culture in Japan is pretty low.

Of course this is just speculation in my part and how anime is declining these days.

Well you might need to explain this more because I honestly doubt watching a few cartoons would automatically make you an Otaku. Not that I'm saying being an Otaku is a bad thing either, we all have our opinions and choices we make in life, you just have to decide if you respect them.

I, also should have probably explained more about this in my OP as well.
