Ok so I'm now a freshman in college and have made plenty of friends. About two weeks into the school year, some of my friends (that are girls) randomly asked if I was gay. I told them, "No, I love doing stuff with girls...where did you get this absurd assumption??" They simply replied that it was because I dress too nice for a guy. Huh??? I love wearing nice clothes, especially good brand names like Banana Republic and Polo...etc...I do realize most guys just wear T-shirt and jeans but seriously, what's wrong with dressing nice?

There nothing wrong with dressing nice it could have been the colors you were wearing as well sometimes girls might thing a guy is gay if has those nice pink, peach or purple shirts on. Do you remember what colors you had on that day and what you were wearing?

It's not what your wearing as in kind of clothes but how you are wearing the clothes that you have. Probably your color matching and such. i wear a lot of nice clothes but I don't look fruity(gay in that sense)

^wwe: Ohh now that you mention it, I was in fact wearing bright colors (pink), and it was a buttoned up shirt. But I still feel insulted that my friends thought I was gay.

I think girls just assume a guy who dresses well is just too good to be true.

I don't think that that makes men gay. O.o

aww yeah the pink might have done it and sorry your friends said that at lest now you know why try less of the pink and more colors like blue, green, red, black that might work or if you like the pink shirt just tell them your not gay its just a shirt

Well, let's put it this way, most guys that dress nicely usually turn out to be gay. That's just an observation based on experience. It seems that most straight guys wear whatever they find clean in their closet. So yeah, girls tend to presume that the guy is gay if he seems to put a lot of effort into dressing up. There's nothing wrong with it though.

... I love frills, and I'm into fashion. I love gentle or 'suave' colors like navy blue and silver matched together, I also like blood red and black color schemes. I like renaissance regal wear and steampunk formal wear.

I also own some clothes that are frilly and puffy, which are from Noir garments.

And I'm completely heterosexual. Just because I love beautiful clothes and fancy attire with a touch of regality and elegance I'm a homosexual? Please explain this to me. I honestly don't understand the concept of this...? How was this even thought up? Fashion is a cultural and media tool that is open to everyone. Not only women and homosexuals.

I love fashion, and I'm homosexual because of that? No I still don't get it.

buy a pink shirt that says "Real men wear pink" lol and they wont think twice

Next time you wear a pink shirt and someone asks you that, tell them you're wearing your anti-bullying shirt.

Anyway I happen to go to college for fashion where, if you were to wear Banana Republic or Polo clothing someone might ask you if it was time to do your laundry soon XD ( i.e., Non-couture brand names don't do well there). But anyway, the guys there (though there are few in the fashion program) are always dressed really well. That means the firefighter students, the aviation students, the language students and the accounting students. The only person who dresses shabby is me, and that is because I like to dress in ironic fashion that is, how you say..."derelicte" lol and hey, I'm actually bi.

Ergo, nice clothes + must be gay = faulty logic. If anything your problem actually lies with shopping at Banana Republic. I suggest going to the fashion district of your downtown area and shopping in a real live clothing boutique, and buy something that does not make it look like you just walked off of a yacht. The homosexual stigma seems to be somehow attached to a nautical theme of some sort, so dressing like a landlubber might help you avoid another awkward situation.

Also, don't feel the need to let me know what you think of my advice, since I really don't care if you follow it or not. I just saw "Banana Republic" and decided I had to speak my mind. :p

Leach out.

I woulda come back the next day in full fancy dress navy-seal gear and offered to wipe their decks for being so absurd!

I dress how I dress and I honestly don't care what anyone thinks of it. If people want to think I'm gay cause I look good so be it I really don't care.
