Just a remainder... People are already getting limb/eye/internal organ implants. So "cybernetic implants" are already reality.

Edit: So... getting creepy bionic eyes is possible. Just needs someone weird enough to want something like that.

the problem is like in ghost in the shell with the invasive nature of such implants...

you need some way to control the limbs with today's technology its most likely a form of remote. in time the same functions will be incorporated into the brain leading to the possibility of digitizing human thought making humans targets for black hat hackers and the like

Yup,hackers are the only thing that's keeping the advancement of cybernetics.
I mean,if you replace your brian with a computer, your easily as hackable as blue tooth cell phone.

Cybernetics are bad because...? They're expensive? Lost in the vanity department? What?

Cybernetics can improve and save lives. They can cure diseases, void and null pain receptors-- the possibilities are endless.

My biggest issue? This:

Rather demonizing, don't you think? I imagine cyborgs and cybernetically-enhanced people more akin to those in Ghost in the Shell, you know the cybernetics that are coupled with cosmetic surgery and medical technologies. Humans are greedy, and they care about beauty (subconsciously, instinctively, or otherwise) and I don't imagine anything like the first person happening... Considering.

Think about it.
Im not demonizing it,i think those pics are awesome (then again im a kid,i think stuff like that are awesome)
When cosmetic surgery fails and making cyborgs the way they're meant to be like the pics above,it can result into a very interesting world.
Hopefully not end up like the world of BLAME! with all of humanity cybernetically enhanced in some way.

Just wondering, wouldn't these cybernetic implants weigh you down?

Not really. Many implants are made with lightweight material like carbon fiber, aluminum and titanium.

Wires and chips aren't that heavy unless they accumulate. Even then it would depend on the size and length of the wires as well as the sort of materials used to make the wires and chips.

Also prosthetic body parts might not weigh as must unless they were intricated.
