Last I checked, the school system is not the parents of the children. This is another example of our freedoms being taken from us day after day.

We've also forgotten how to be responsible as well.

Freedom.... comes at a price, us attempting to find true freedom was hubris to begin with.

Which has the lower rate of Crime: North America, England, or Japan? The more privileges and rights you have, the more someone will exploit theirs so they'll make yours nulled. The more lenient your policies and laws are, the more people will use them to get away scot free.

What do you do to show your country a criminial gets what a criminial deserves? Beat the living shit out of them, show them they don't have rights, and jsut make their lives an imitation of hell. That would be my reaction to crime, as cold it is it'd be effective. What America lacks is one solid formation. Us being divided into states and conglomerates only serves to divide us.

Now this is a textbook example. If you want to make the next generation healthier, and the more you block the generation from ruining your health, you put laws down. You don't give someone 'absolute freedom' and not expect them to abuse it. That's stupid, which also reminds me a aprty system in general is stupid.

You have your own beliefs, but this is just further proof to my perspective that America is self-destructing from it's capitalism, it's fast-food and other gluttony industries, and it's divided way of life.

Poor us.

Sure why not just make the kids fatter than they already are going to be. I don't know about other people but my school lunches were always pretty healthy, regardless if my mom or myself made it. So good job Chicago schools, you really put the hammer down.

My school served real food. A fruit, a vegetable, a bread, a salad, and a main dish or two. (Not all of those, necessarily). So you could get spaghetti, a salad, garlic bread, and another side, 4 things total, and a drink of milk or water or a less healthy drink. We also had a snack bar that had things like chips, ice cream, pretzels, parfaits, cookies, etc. If you're poor, having a school lunch might be all you can eat. Making sure it's healthy is important.

Not allowing homemade lunches doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me. I wish it had been the rule at my school, though, so that maybe I would've ate lunch every day.

I did mention responsiblity at the end, right? The school system should not be going out of it's way to make decsions for the parents. Instead, they should be telling the parents to be responsible for what they feed their children.

No fast food place or any form of capitalism should be blamed for making some of us obesed, when it's the obesed buying the shit, inserting the shit in their stomachs, and getting fat and lazy from the shit!! They're not taking responsiblity for being fat, and not eating propertly. It isn't the governments job to take care of them. IT'S THEIR OWN JOB TO TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES. So can we please reinstall responsiblity, common sense, such things that are deemed "irrelevant" to this sad ass backwards society we now live in!?

Ether get off your fat ass and start losing weight, or you'll suffer for it and it will be your own fault. Simularly for parents, it's your damn job to feed your children the right foods so they don't get overweight!!

I'm sick of crap. The government has no right to tell me what I can and can't eat, or what I can and can't do with my life reguardless of my race or gender or age!!

Schools in the united states SUCK, they use terrible food and microwave crap from not well known brands. They also use chopped meat from useless parts of the cow to use as filler in crap. This same meat is bleached with the same chemicals made for making bombs. Why the hell would they ban home lunches. Kids and parents need to be able to choose what their children EAT, period.

Listen, institutionalized schools are the last place to be telling parents what is and isn't good for their children regarding food. They are not food education experts. if any public school says they are conscious about food, they are hypocrites. All public schools follow the school boards method of obtaining funding for food. It is more profitable to get the cheap junk, and so that's exactly what they offer.

This is also a bunch of fairness BS. They are going boooo hoooo we think that because some kids will be jealous if their peers bring food from home. Well kids have brought food from home to school as long as the education system in the states has existed, long before there were even school provided meals.

You did end it with responsibility, howeevr freedom comes at the advantage of abusing it. Which was my point. Also, the school can't tell what the parents to feed the children, and some won't listen. all they can do is do what they can do on their own ground. (literally)

Please calm down. I find this show of rage unnecessary. Reinstalling responsibility also comes at a price, though I probably should have elaborated. capitalism is corrupting the united states, and the modern society which fast food is convenient practically serves to govern and create obese people.

Again, calm down. I was just stating my (subjective) opinion to yours. I found fault with your line of perspectiive, and raised mine. People cannot have responsibility when they can neglect, abuse, and excessively consume their rights with absolutely no problem. what I'd do? Make all fat foods the same price as cigarettes. Not only would this help change the majority of the people into eating right, it'd also get money from the stupid and addicted. (Who by the way, can stay like that for all I care. I only really care about the majority.)

Besides, I'm fine with this law. I don't see how this will end a largescale problem overall, but it definitely helps.

It is our responsibility to eat well and I don't think government has any places telling us how to eat. However, the way our market system works these days for the food industry. There isn't a whole lot of 'quality' good food in circulation.

It's far easier to be supplied bad food than good. Even if you go to a deli, over 80% of the lean beef they have wrapped is actually only part good meat, the rest is made from filler meat of ground bones that has been bleached in dangerous chemicals. This is the same part of the cow that they make dog food out of. Except that dogs can handle the stuff in a way we cant.

I don't have enough trust in public institutions to believe a word they say. I just cannot agree with this decision because I know a majority of public schools serve complete crap that can hardly even be considered edible. I have a strong feeling that what this school considers healthy is not the same as what food experts would consider decent food

Not only that, but this decision makes the idea that much more acceptable to other schools around. More schools adopting the same rules can only serve to hurt children further because public institutions are completely dependent on the low price junk that the capitalistic dollar bin slaughter house provides. Which is the inedible excess that most cooks actually PAY to get rid of.

I'd rather a portion of kids be healthy if they have parents who make good meals, rather than a 100% total of kids being totally unhealthy because they don't have alternatives. I'm not kidding when I say there are 'proud' schools that have numbers of over 70% overweight, and they have no plans to change this.

i'd say it's about revenue for the school, the more they get kids to buy lunch at school, the more they can spend within that school, for the principal to say they can go hungry for bringing their own food from home, he will probably face suspension or a sacking, it's still healthy and it's much more cost effective to take your own lunch to school

You prove your point, since I was actually just reading your other posts and going to myself "Well, you forgot foam. They don't only use filler meat unfortunately."

School foods do rely on the easy-to-get slaughterhouse bin of leftovers. Which by the way, is far from healthy. However I still think fruit and vegetables are the healthiest choice for a school lunch. Because even if they were dipped in chemicals to preserve them, they aren't made from disgusting leftovers. Then again, I might be wrong.

I see your point Varn. It would be considerably more impractical if children started depending on the school for breakfast and lunch. that would considerably damage the generation and next generations health by a sybstantial amount if it became a statewide practice. Still, it would be effective for funds. Though thinking of the materials the food and foodstuffs are made from, I think I might retract my statement since the sole benefit of funds (which encourages capitalism) doesn't help the case.

I still agree with what you mean if say it was a private school that used portions of tuition to actually purchase good meals. That would actually be a great favor to the parents and private school are generally more personable to families. That is if you know the private school will teach your children views that you agree with.
