I was talking with some friends a while back and somehow we got going on the topic of fighting. Now me, I'll do whatever is necessary to come out on top, whether that means bashing someone in the head with a nearby hard object or aiming low with my punches and kicks. Now my friends had issue with my idea, saying that it was "dirty" and "cheap." Personally I just think they want some sort of honorable dual in the form of a brawl.

Whose opinion is right?
Is there actually such a thing as fighting dirty or are you just doing what you need to come out on top?

Well, once you start using objects in a fight -- and you win -- you're looking at a much longer prison sentence.

If honorable fighting was success ensuring, it wouldn't be obsolete compared to dirty fighting.

In a fight, there are two things: winning and losing I personally don't care how I fight long as I win, If someone is on the ground I'll stomp the living hell out of them. If someone is liable to bring a knife to a fist fight, I'll bring a gun.

'honor' is a nice way to restrict things, but in all honesty I don't see the point. If you want to fight fairly then give all you got. Because I will, and if you don't fight just as dirty as I do chances are you are totally screwed.

Tactics. Its all about winning and surviving, not losing and getting humiliated. Calling a technique or style cheap or dirty is just shortsighted, a lot of fighting is about gaining the upper hand, which by how dirty fighting is categorized, is also unfair.

A lot of self-defense techniques would be dirty because it protects you and gives you the upper hand, which would be the same as dirty fighting. Am I making any sense? Dirty fighting is proposed on winning, how you fight is irrelevant long as it gives you the upper hand. Self-defense is the same, because it gives you a upper-hand against your assailant.

I'll reiterate: There is winning and losing. Fuck fighting fairly, if I have to stomp on someone's neck ten or so times to know I've really won then I'll do just that. If I see something to help me like a wooden or metal bat, I'll use that. Better then it being used against me.

Now I'm going to use my favorite quote. "If you don't protect what matters most then you'll ahve nothing. And deserve it.", if you don't fight with all you got and all the resources available then you were just screwing around.... and losing is exactly what you deserved.

Well, that depends on the circumstances, if I have something to protect... yeah I'll "fight dirty" otherwise I'll just do like I normally do, which has yet to really fail me. I'm not physically strong, but I am a lot more agile then everyone else around where I live (and a good deal smarter than the people with the physical strength) so I have an easy time getting out of fighting unless I am cornered... I feel bad for those who do that, as I am highly claustrophobic, so I black out and don't remember a single thing I do. Nearly shattered some guys nose, it almost killed him I was so close to getting into serious trouble, but someone witnessed him pushing me into a corner, heard me say several times not to do that, going so far as to warn him of the danger... idiot didn't listen, lucky for him he lived, I was already told that since I gave fair warning that I was in the clear, something his rich but powerless parents didn't like

An opinion can't be right or wrong.

If you can live with the consequences of your actions, do what you have to do. Just don't be upset if you kill the guy and have to go to prison for life.

Also there is no coming out on top, a fight/altercation more often than not, stems from a stupid, trivial situation caused by one or both parties involved.

i usually go by what's agreed upon.. i went to a very small school where everybody kinda grew up together. so we established ground rules to settle our disputes. we're like brothers sure we'll give each other knuckle sandwiches and bloody noses on a weekly basis but we won't smash bricks on each other's skulls.

what not to do

1. nut shots
2. hairpulling
3. scratching
4. biting
5. eye poking
6. weapons

break any of the rules and the whole group beats you up no questions asked. same goes for the other guy.

however, the rules don't apply if the opponent is an outsider. if you're being mugged or harassed it's perfectly acceptable to kick the guy in the nuts and keep on kicking until he passes out or piss blood. whichever comes first.

I agree the most with mustachio.

This one time my bro and I were headed into a shopping arcade that was pretty much empty. It was late at night. From the peripheral of our vision we noticed these dudes closing in on us ready in formation to mug us.

Fortunately we swiftly slipped out of there. It was instinct and quick action that got us out of that.

Agreed, unfortunately. A lot of the controversy comes from the thought that fair fighting is better, no it isn't. Not in my perspective anyways. You can fight fairly with all the superficial rules you want, but it won't ever nab you a win. I've found out in my school when I got into fights, I might as well let the opposition beat the fuck out of me if I ever considered fighting fair.

I'm pacifistic in most cases but I never really had a choice. Either get wailed on until they get bored or put effort in and try to win. (Which happened very little.)

Combat pragmatists always come out on top since they are free from moral dilemmas. Remember that there are no winners in wars, only survivors.

sure is.
Dirty people fight dirty lol.
Using weapons when the other has none is fighting dirty.
Using dirty tactics is oviously dirty.
Jumping someone is dirty.
Fighting dirty is just basically doing someone dirty in a fight.
...........DIRTY!..................

To me fighting dirty is just going wild and no thought or tactic is involved. The best thing to do is not fight at all, just defend and bring the opponent under your control to give you enough time to either run away or see if they calm down and agree to leave you alone. Nobody enjoys the feeling of their joints rubbing against the nerves in their arm or leg, it causes extreme pain but has no lasting affects as long as you don't hold them in a painful lock for too long. Some people do that just because they enjoy the power over them, but its wrong and makes you as bad as them.

If you choose to fight, its no longer classified as self defense but a street brawl.

Ditto.

This whole "honour" thing is just silly, life isn't some martial arts film or some martial arts anime.

I don't plan to get hurt during a fight so yes I'd fight dirty because the person who starts the fight would deserve it because he's an idiot for starting it full stop. We shouldn't be fighting in the first place, I'd fight dirty to defend myself and especially when defending others. If anyone here has been bullied alot like me, you'd forget about stupid chivalry and defend yourself.

Fighting isn't a good thing full stop no matter how much "honour" codes you adhere to, hurting people is wrong unless you're willing to defend yourself and others. Someone hits me with a pen I'll smash their faces in with a pole because I for one have no time to be messed around with.

I'm sure some people will be like
"hurr durr ur weak cuz u need 2 use a pole"

I don't care what people think of me to be honest. I don't live life to show others how strong I am, I have more important things to do.
