Impressions on Ao no Exorcist

It's not the best show out this season but it's far from the worst. It is popular for sure so that at least says something about it. I like the show because of storyline and characters. I wish there was more character development with the supporting cast though. I tend to not like shows that take themselves too seriously or that are serious 99.9% of the time and also shows with convoluted plots that make kids think they're so deep. Most show with 'god-complex' characters, (MSMM anyone? It was very well done but didn't deserve the months of fanboying afterwards that it received here and elsewhere) fit the bill. Basically, if you don't like the generic shounen storyline, you probably won't like Blue Exorcist. A lot of people that keep complaining about these shows plots just want gratuitous violence nonstop for 30 minutes. Violence alone does not make a good story.

That's what I said. Violence alone doesn't make a great story, nor anime at that. It's far from the worse, but also from the best. In the middle.

This anime had a very good start,an it was developing well but I was wondering if they will follow the direction the manga too and later noted they modified it a little here and there and finally made a totally different arc which is a cliche , good brother evil brother, mutiny in the vatican,a sudden conspiracy? common ....whats going on...I mean it could work well but they are rushing the development of the story.So I am really upset.

As I am writing this, we are at episode 21 and the story has gotten different.The classmates roles are being downplayed, they introduced more characters which has no depth.

In the manga, it took the route of the sword more and the setting is in Kyoto the story was more on Bon's side.Its more the history of the sword and the evil that they were protecting .

i had a discussion with my friends after watching episode 21 who also like this anime too. And we all agreed its abit like FMA that the anime is totally different from the manga and we doubt they would do the Kyoto arc.

we will see how they will end it we only got 3 episodes left.

I really like the series, its made Demonic Wednesdays fun! Sadly Science Tuesdays are now just Tuesday since the most awesome scifi anime ever has ended (Steins;Gate).

Also whats the distinction between ao and aoi; both of which mean blue?

It is the best anime/manga ever. and I want it to last for at least 500 episodes. and the manga is totally and completely different from the anime. But it's still good.

It's an O.K. anime but I'm getting kind of bored with the manga and anime not that it's bad or anything but thats what I feel at the moment...

i agree that the manga took a different route and concentrated on the sword itself and it is spending too much on it and away from Rin and his brother which is what the manga is suppose to be about.

So you could say the anime took an alternate route to the story but it is taking steps that is moving too fast and not allowing the story to develop deeper .Introducing new characters out of the blue ( imean late in the story )and the n killing them in a figure of speech, making them shallow and uninteresting.

I agree it is getting exciting but it always bother me when a good story turns mediocre.

Sorry double post....but heres an answer i copied...

"ao" is noun.
i.g.)
Hiragana; あおがすきです。
Romaji; ao ga suki desu.
English; I like blue.

"aoi" is adjective.
i.g.)
Hiragana; うみはあおい。
Romaji; umi wa aoi.
English; The sea is blue.

ao=あお(青)
aoi=あおい(青い)

Therefore both can mean blue.
When it's used as noun, "ao" is proper form.
When it's used as adjective, "aoi" is proper form.
