Lee Byeong-heon, together with the Hong sisters? "The King"

Actor Lee Byeong-Heon is considering a drama offer from the Hong sisters.

It turns out Lee Byeong-Heon was offered a role in the new MBC drama "The King", planned to air next year. However, it doesn't seem like Lee Byeong-Heon has responded yet.

A drama official said, "'The King' crew is hoping to catch Lee Byeong-Heon".

Lee Byeong-Heon is showing interest in the drama but he is scheduled to be overseas until the end of this year for a Hollywood movie. Also, other schedules don't make it easy for him to fit in a drama schedule.

Lee Byeong-Heon is currently very active on screens ever since the 2009 December drama "IRIS".

"The King" written by the Hong sisters is about a man and a woman both from great families from the North and South married by system, building on their love over misunderstandings and obstacles.

The Hong sisters and PD Lee Jae-gyoo are coming back together in 4 years after 2008 drama "Beethoven Virus".

Just a small correction, PD Lee Jae-gyoo worked with the other Hong sisters on Beethoven Virus. There are two sets of Hong sisters who pen dramas in the entertainment industry.

Interesting! I can't wait to see another Hong Sisters drama. Although the concept is somewhat similar to Peninsula (another upcoming drama)

'Bali couple' Jo In-seong and Ha Ji-won meet again

Cast for MBC drama "The King"

Ha Ji-won and Jo In-Seong are getting together again for the first time in 7 years. The two have confirmed to lead star in the MBC drama "The King".

The two have once worked together on the 2004 SBS drama "Something Happened in Bali" and rose to stardom. It's been 7 years since the drama but there are so many people who remember it that they are still called the 'Bali couple'.

While competition for the role was tough, now that Ha Ji-won and Jo In-Seong have been cast, the drama "The King" is now looked forward to as the most anticipated drama of next year.

Jo In-Seong has been thinking seriously about his comeback project ever since he'd been discharged from the military. As "Kwon Bob" which he originally planned to star in first got postponed, he changed routes to "The King" while looking for an alternative. Ha Ji-won also chose Jo In-Seong as her partner after her recent movie "Korea".

It seems as though Ha Ji-won and Jo In-Seong will create a synergy effect. Ha Ji-won once revealed in a recent interview, "I can't forget the kiss with Jo In-Seong the most" and it is known that the two trust each other more than others.

"The King" is a fantasy mellow drama about a king and a princess from the South and North falling in love with each other. This storyline takes place under the assumption that the king still rules the country and the black comedy is what brings the excitement.

The production team is working hard on the rest of the cast now that Ha Ji-won and Jo In-Seong are on board. Apparently producer Lee Jae-gyoo is meeting with actor Lee Soon-jae whom he worked with on "Beethoven Virus" and is negotiating the details.

"The King" is written by Hong Jin-ah and Hong Ja-ram.

"The King" Negotiations with Ha Ji-won and Lee Je-hoon fall through, main character 'emergency'

After discussions with powerful stars Ha Ji-won and Lee Je-hoon have fallen through, MBC drama "The King", schedule to air the first half of next year, is facing a casting emergency.

Ha Ji-won had mentioned starring as the heroine in "The King" (working title, directed by Lee Jae-gyu), which is scheduled to air in March, but talks with the star have withered.

People affiliated with Ha and her management, "Wellmade StarM", said on a December 27th TV report, "She was confirmed to appear, but after some changes in her schedule she had to reconsider. Director Lee Jae-gyu, whom she worked with on "Damo", was sad to hear this news".

Lee Je-hoon, who was mentioned as the hero to Ha Ji-won's heroine, has instead chosen to star in the the upcoming SBS drama "Fashion King". A press release stated that he confirmed with "Fashion King" after attending its script reading.

With two stars departing like this, "The King" has become an urgent matter for producer Kim Jong-hak and MBC. Before Ha Ji-won and Lee Je-hoon, Jo In-Seong was also mentioned as a cast member, but as he has decided to focus on films he also withdrew. An affiliate of the production noted, "Casting the main roles has not worked out for us, but we will pull together a better alternative shortly".

"The King" is a romantic comedy from writers Hong Jin-ah and Hong Ja-ram, who worked with director Lee Jae-gyu on "Beethoven Virus", and features a love story between a female North Korean spy and South Korean prince who is about to inherit the throne.

Ha Ji-won and Cha Seung-won in The King?

There have been so many rumors upon rumors circulating for so long about Ha Ji-won starring in upcoming romantic comedy The King, and new reports are out that she’s finally confirmed the role. But with this drama, I’ll believe it when I see it. And right on the tail of her casting report, a new name got tossed out for a possible leading man in Cha Seung-won, who’s reportedly considering the role carefully. I swear, this drama just needs to pick a cast already. I vote for this pair. Can we start filming now?

The King is a high-buzz romantic comedy set in a fictional contemporary Korea where a monarchy still exists. The crown prince is arranged to marry an intelligence agent from North Korea (Ha Ji-won), and hijinks ensue. Listen, I’d be all over this if Myung-wol the Spy didn’t tank like the thousand battleships of doom that it did. Granted, one drama has nothing to do with the other, but it still brings up bad associations. Whereas before I’d be really giddy, my expectation meter is currently set to we’ll see, Show.

This drama is the highly anticipated re-team of PD Lee Jae-kyu and writers Hong Jin-ah and Hong Ja-ram (the other Hong Sisters–not the Best Love/Gumiho/My Girl ones) who are reuniting for the first time since Beethoven Virus. The director worked with Ha Ji-won nine years ago on Damo, so there are lots of reunions afoot.

The King plans to air on MBC in March. But airdates are for dramas with casts, so we’ll see if this production can make some deals and finally set sail.
