If you are overweight, low intensity won't be effective. High-intensity cardio workout burns fat (75% calorie, 25% stored) the longer you do it. If you build an endurance, you can burn up to 400 - 500 calories a day, and that isn't including any bodybuilding or weightlifting program. I also suggest you to invest in adjustable weights, that way if you're bored you can do dumbbell curls and dips.

I'm not too overweight just put on a couple of stone (I'm tall so it's actually not that bad) and I've just become unfit overall and I need to lose the flab and just build muscle. I got some weights and a lot of other equipment such as bench press and a lat pulldown. I imagine low intensity if good for body building? I'm a novice at these things I'm afraid. Could you point me to the right direction please since it sounds like you have sound knowledge of fitness and exercising.
