I'm an atheist myself, however I have done enough research and been exposed first-hand to enough religions to (in my opinion) fully understand why people choose to follow on and never look down upon those who choose to. The basis of religion is to help people conduct themselves, almost all religions encourage what is generally accepted as "good" behavior among followers. If someone leads a good life because of fear of damnation that is completely acceptable to be as he uses that as a way to conduct himself. The thing that ticks me off though is how some religions have laws that i do not think serve any logical purpose and are just an annoyance, I also think that even though preservation of a religion is important, it should not interfere with one's love life. Religion in my opinion should just have a basic set of laws for general conduct, if it interferes with something such as the choosing of a spouse or prohibiting beneficial scientific study then it really defeats the purpose in the first place.

That being said i believe the world would be a better place without religion if it just suddenly disappeared. However i don't believe the world would have gotten to its current state without religion.

You and I think so alike, it's slightly scary.
Very much agreed.

lots better. there would be no discrimination basedd on religeon. plus alot of time and engery put to it will be free to advance in other things. BUT the bad side is that thing scould get worse seeing how tyrants wont fear wat happens when they die so they kill and cause much more chaos

I completely agree w/ that!~

lol, a world w/ out religion? that's crazy...omg~ we'd be animals....we wouldn't be any different from the effing food chain.....no moral values, no thought of sacrificing for 1 another, no love, no hate, no compassion, no big reminder of our ancestors, nothing....even more ppl would just be more selfish than they are now, stealing & taking everything u own~ -_- (I'd picture life as a nomad or cave-man/woman thing)

How do u think law & order was created in the 1st place & civilizations were built upon & created?? lol...seriously...it was a simple belief & that simple belief became a religion of many different kinds of practices.

there would be less art >_> no super cool fairy tales, and honestly it would be drab, there needs to be a balance, and although religion is somewhat of a crutch, i believe there needs to be some sort of hope for people.............since these people probably dont trust other people they trust in a higher power, to you know, never betray them.........and isnt that what everyone wants? for at least one thing that will never betray them? so until humans stop betraying each other, then there needs to be at least 2 or 3 religions, you know necessary evils >_>

No matter how civil humans portray themselves to be, WE ARE ANIMALS... But we have great adaptability and superior minds that were honed over the long centuries.

The strong made religion/laws to control, and dominate the weak. Over time, man thirsted for even more power, thus several wars broke out. This eventually led several established factions of power called "religions".

unless anyone takes charge, there would definitely no order. as a non believer, its weird saying that this world would be in chaos w/ out religion to keep the majority in check. i myself sometime cant stand those very religious people that are so into it that they deprive themselves and the ones close to them that they are not able to enjoy life to its fullest.

and of course the whole religious war shit. "i'm gonna kill thousands of people so i can go to heaven." yea....get the fuck outta here.

She may be on to something... People have discriminated, fought wars, and even died for the sake of religion. Why didn't God just create an ideal world? Why not kill Adam and Eve(If they even existed) when they defied him, it's not like God has to answer to any higher authority, right?

Can't say it any better myself. I just had to scream it out there. If religion was a part of us all, why all the pain and suffering? God, as we all know it, have the power over us. We 'all' worship god right? WRONG! Image

If we all ask him to stop the pain and suffering and everything that matters to us all, why do the evils get the better of us all? Why pray and not get anything back. The evil and the people who we see everyday on tv that don't deserve to live prob dont believe in god or any religion that's prob why they are the luckier ones. They believe in themselves and their lucks. I still believe religion is the death of us all.

Nope, I never imagined it xD
'Cause I don't pay attention ever, to the people's religion around me. It kind of pisses me off when people are trying to convert me saying, ' "god" loves you! ' ' "he" gave his life for you! ' .
I mean come on, go convert yourself you freaking hypocrite. =/

You're right. I say let people believe in whatever they want and think they're better than the rest, they're only fooling themselves in the end, as long as I'm concerned. There technically is no right and wrong, good or evil, just actions that are either accepted/praised or disliked/hated by the mindless masses. If enough people with power think the sky is green... guess what...

Religion is perfect...humas are flawed, thus religion is not to blame but those who profess it.So a world without religion would find something else to kill and die for,but a world without humans...thats an idea.

Well religion gives people a sense of hope and religion for many people have made them happy in their lives. I couldn't imagine a life without religion. It's bad when people take it to the extreme and then make religion seem like a bad thing. There are many extremists who forget exactly what their religion stood for and completely go against the basic principles that are in majority if not all religions in the first place. Religion can be a wonderful thing. It's not something I usually talk about because people can get easily offended with this subject but, in my opinion, it's a great thing to have around because it gives some people the hope and happiness they didn't have before in their lives.

too true...but look where religion/law has taken mankind...a level beyond reach....
we wouldn't be here today, debating or comtemplating about it, if there wasn't ne religion or ppl who had crazy power forcing others to learn & take control, I believe someone had to do it, there is no way we would be here, w/ comps, w/ science, w/ technology, or w/ any luxury if it wasn't for religion/law....ppl did the things they did becuz of a certain religion/law . For ex. Pilgrimage to the "New World" obviously those ppl didn't want to follow the catholic way so they left. ppl astraying from religion becuz of their own beliefs. religion/law still brought them to where they wanted & needed to be....u also hav the ppl who question religion/law...since it co-exist w/ their philosophy of nature....ppl would hav never thought about going against it in the 1st place, if it was a problem....ppl thought harder & began thinking new ways to improve & try & live happier...

** Basically** Regardless of how ppl feel about religion/law itself, it was needed in order for ppl to rebel against it, create new & improved ways of living w/ it or not, question its authority, & hav a purpose or meaning in their lives & continue to do wut-ever they do....

the world will still stay the same.. you know why?
because even religion is present at this period, people are still immoral and they just tend to ignore the moral and ethical values of their religion..
if the world just knows how to value everything then even if there's no religion, the world will still be alrighth
