I just think.... What if it were me that lost this? I'd be tempted... oh i'd be very tempted... especially if it were cash... but being honest and returning things to their owner is the better thing to do... Besides... Kharma will catch up to you..

It actually makes me very sad that so many people would just take it. The sense of honesty and doing what's right has just gone down the drain. No wonder why the baby-boomers are worried about the nation. I don't blame them. Look at what all these people would do, rather then the right thing.

i believe so too. i often think in other peoples shoes. so i understand the feeling on losing something.

I'd hand it in. Besides, I think that if it's not claimed after a certain time, you get to keep certain things.

If I find something and I want or need it then I take it. Just a couple weeks ago someone had forgotten their ipod on a library desk after they left. I nabbed it. If I don;t want or need it then why would I pick it up? lost and found and all that stuff is a waste of my time and he'll find it quicker if it's actually where he left it. Plus it leaves an opening for another opportunistic individual who maybe does want or need it. A comedian I listened to once said it well.
"there's a difference between honesty and stupidity. If you find someones wallet with money in it and you return the wallet, that's honest. If you return the wallet with the money still inside it, that's stupid." though he delivered it much better than I can really do justice in text you get the jist of it.

For sure if I knew who it belonged to I'd return it otherwise I'd feel like a thief. You never know with money cause it could belong to a needy person or family. But you know what I'd be concerned about is the group or person that I entrust the found item with - they could be ruthless and just take it for themselves even the police are easily capable of that (at least the crooked ones are). Really I could only trust it with myself. Maybe put up a discreet unrevealing sign were I found the item and places nearby. If after some time no one comes forth I'd keep it if it's of value to me.

If it is an object that would be impossible to return, because it has no sort of identification, I'd keep it but if it does I'll find the person and return it
I know what its like to have things stolen from you and it ain't nice.
My house got robbed and so did my mom's store and both of these happen with 3 months in between. I even lost my purse and when i found it they stole my DS (the bastards)

card holder: Meh. Since I don't have one of those already, my dad would become suspicious if I walk up to him and said "hey how do ya use this?"
wallet with $$: Mine now. hehehe
phone/ipod/camera/laptop/etc: I wouldn't get the phone only because the person's friend might call and....yeah...
book/not book/ dairy: read it. lol. leave it somewhere in the open when nobody is around me.
