I am 36 and been watching anime for 23 years so I have seen a lot of anime and my options are running low.

What I am after is deep slow and thought provoking anime for the more mature and serious of mind, something specifically aim towards adults that I can sink my teeth into and enjoy. As quite frankly the UK listing for anime on crunchyroll is pretty dire and pitiful at best.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: Thanks for all the suggestions but I thikn it is better I make of list of what I have seen, so people dont waste their time thinking about stuff only for me to know it is already great.

SEEN
Akira
Blue Gender
Serial Experiment Lain
Dennou Coil
Planates
Vandred
Cleymore
Full Metal Panic
Haibane Renmei
Texnolyze

You have seen PlanetES?

Anyhow most anime even wen their target audience is 8 year old will have adult hummer in it as well, just for those adults who watch anime with there kids.

As for me I have found I am drawn to the classic slice of life drama anime more than any of the new shows.

an I two have been watching anime for a little over 25 years.

Yup seen Planates and one of my all time favourite animes and has plenty of discussion points, though I may need to rewatch it as my memory is not as sharp as it used to be.

I generally prefer sci-fi and cyberpunk, but any good well thought out story will do me.

Sci-Fi is one of my favorite type as well.. I can think of a few anime, some not as mature and provocative as people lead you to think.
Ergo Proxy, Saikano, or Vandread (if you can look past some of the shallow characters, it does have a deeper story to it.)
