I heard that the iPhone streams have hard subs, and thus cannot be disabled. Is this true? If so, will you consider making it an option to disable subs on the iphone?

CR decided to hardsub the videos for most devices because the hardware and/or bandwidth was not always capable of playing the videos and subtitles smoothly otherwise. Softsubs has its advantages, but it tends to cause the videos to lag a bit. And back when CR was still providing softsubs on the ios app(s), many users had issues with the subtitles getting cut off. CR made the sacrifice of getting rid of softsubs for the sake of quality.

What Mozychan said above. Another reason was that on the ipad, the subtitle font was the same size as on the iphone so it was really tiny and hard to read on the ipad. Apple has no way of letting app developers change the subtitle font size. With hardsubs, CR has control over the font size, style, and color.
