So, we basically sign a symbolic gesture so that we can both enjoy both our idleness and feed our ego- lovely, count me in. I would love to sign this letter that the President is probably not going to read, after all, it is not the end result that matter, but the fact that I have fed my ego by giving effete and mostly symbolic support for a greater cause instead of going about and doing something more effective for said cause.

There's no way he'd have time to read it. I could see actively supporting this movement in Uganda, but I can also see getting shot there by people with something against homosexuality. Ego aside, I hope this petition does something more than curl the nose of some idiot who receives it.

Obviously we can't go to Uganda to fight against this if we happen to like being alive and not covered in bullets, but America happen to have a process by which we can pressure our government into pressuring the Ugandan government to cast away this barbaric laws- joining a PAC and lobbying, for example, though however low a light it may appear the present age, is not a completely malvolent force, the suffragettes lobbied, the Israeli lobbied, certainly there is already very many Gay-Rights PAC, and, instead of wishing them best, I believe it is possible to join in on their group to promote Gay rights here and abroad. Comparitively, this petition has no power at all to influence the President of Uganda, and only feeds the ego of the signataires in much the same way charity feeds their ego, only less so because this does absolutely nothing.

Even numerous petitions might not do anything. They are just pieces of paper with the names of common people. I am sure, without doubt, that if a petition containing the names of important political figures from numerous countries was issued, especially those Uganda does business with, things would likely be headed in the right direction.

Maybe, just for laughs, the president of Uganda would be inspired if his own mother had anything to say about it all.
