In reference to watching anime on your computer.

No he can also mean anime that's out of reach due to scarcity or country restrictions.

In that case

MPC (Media Player Classic) and VLC do a good enough job. I have also The KMP Player. I alternate between the three depending which can play it without any glitches. Oh wait I failed to mention Windows Media Player. It's useful sometimes.

In the case I do download anime I tend to get 1080p so those Players I mentioned have been good to me with my videos.

I'm not technical and will never bother to read pages of manuals. If there's a problem I fiddle with the settings or just seek the answer online.

I use iTunes, I have some complete, some incomplete anime series why...DRM<----- , it there wasnt DRM on the episode(s) I would instead use Windows Media Player 12 since it plays smoother(i think WMP12 uses hardware acceleration on m4v and similar codecs) on WMP12 than on iTunes.
I also use Quicktime Pro 7 why.. I can change the video size pretty much able to fill the screen without any black bars, 640x480 change to 640x360 or with FLCL HD version's case 960x720 to 1280x720

CR doesn't stream everything, nor has it been around all THAT long. In my case; however, I'm trying to watch some oooold stuff like Gundam 0079. Besides, watching anime isn't the only purpose of a good media player. I use my computer to watch all of my netflix discs, and sometimes MPC doesn't work out as well as I'd like.

To everybody else: Thanks for your suggestions!

Have/Get Combined Community Codec Pack with Media Player Classic(Since, it comes with it). And, VLC give me one of the two and I'm a happy legit anime watcher.

it's only illegal if the anime downloaded is licensed in your country. if the license expires there's a limited window of opportunity it's within the legal loophole..

it's more of a sin if someone burned the said anime to dvd and sell them. i attempted to do that.. but given the cost of hardware needed to make a passable production line and the fact that people don't usually watch what i watch.. ergo no ready market. I abandoned the project while it was still on the drawing board and just burned back ups for my personal enjoyment.

you can download and save streams too.. but there are websites that are too smart and automatically delete it's downloaded stream from your cache once you reach the end of the clip. dunno if crunchyroll has that.. it's been a few years since i watched anything here. anyway back then i did try to download the streaming content using download helper.

turns out it's too much trouble. so meh.. fuck it.
