For me i would love to have colour in manga because it makes it seem more anime to me and that's just my opinion not saying that it should be colour just saying that i myself would like it.

I'd love colored manga. Different shades of black can only take it so far. I guess the printing costs that follow colored editions are too high for mass production, unfortunately. It is possible that they aren't colored because mangaka's can't afford the color supplies? They are supposed to be poor after all.

I think I'd just prefer black and white. Giving it color to me gives it more of a comic feeling (I really dislike comics) and it would also cost more for the colored ink.

Color would be terrible for manga.

The cost isn't just in the printing; it's in manpower, technique and speed. In order to keep close to the same schedule, the creators would have to hire people to both handle that color and coordinate with the inkers. Then, the artist would have to drastically change his/her approach: shading is now a matter of warm/cool colors, saturation, hue, and value; composition of the panels would be changed to better reflect different weights of the subjects, not to mention balancing how busy each panel is. All this extra work on the creator would definitely slow down the release schedule for any manga that was entirely in color.

Besides, black and white doesn't distract you from the actual art. You can't get away with half the crap animation companies do (I'm looking at you, Studio DEEN).

There's a number of comics written in English with black and white art which were later reissued with colorized art. I became a fan of Elfquest thanks to some of the older colorized softbound collections (later, then the mid-90s hardbound colorized collections), and I became a fan of Jeff Smith's Bone thanks to the original black and white collections. In both cases, I believe that the original colorless art holds up better. Neither comic looks awful in color, but both have excellent black and white art.

i think colour would be kinda cool, but then i don't think manga would be the same, cause most people who aren't otaku would just confuse it with comics... we don't want that now do we?

Recently, i've been reading several korean web-toons that are coloured. I was like all "wow" at the beginning, but as i kept on reading, it being in colour is not really as significant as the story anymore. So i guess what i'm saying is that, it'll be nice having mangas in colour i suppose, but in the end, it's the story and the art (to some extent) that matters most.

But as mangas are in black and white, i do look forward and appreciate more the coloured pages/volume covers that appear once in a while.

I enjoy the black and white pages of a manga myself. Nothing wrong with color but I think it takes on the look of a comic if you do the whole thing in color.

i like it just plain black & white, but with color in it, i think it would make the manga seem somewhat more colorful, more bright. it just makes it more lovely. lol, i dont know what i'm even saying. but yeeah. i like it either waay, colorful or colorless. (:

I prefer black and white except in certain instances. In the manga Pluto (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=3871 ) color is used sparingly, but when it is used, it gives an impact. For example, flowers are an important part to the story. When a flower/flowers is important in some way, it is in color. If the whole series was in color, the impact would be completely lost. (I highly recommend the series and even though the manga costs more to buy than the average manga, the color pages make it worth the money.) I kind of like it when color pages are included, if that's how it was originally released. One other thing to keep in mind, if manga was all in color, it would be more expensive to create/buy. Leaving manga mostly black and white keeps the cost down.

It depends on the market. Americans love color, but it's considerably more expensive to produce colorized manga. It's also a matter of tradition and an attempt to remain true to the artistic vision of the manga authors/artists.

As far as I'm concerned, I would definitely read manga more often it it were in color and also bigger - like Heavy Metal magazine for instance. Imagine trying to watch anime in black and white?? Meh.

But manga are comics...Even in Japan they call them "comikku" on pretty much all the manga and anime sites...
I assume you mean American comics. There are plenty as serious as more serious animated and drawn stuff from Japan. I guess the reason you dislike them is that you haven't found one you like yet. They're like books in that regard.

As for being on topic, I really wouldn't mind either way, though the odd color page is nice. I just hate the way Viz Media print theirs in black and white (Fullmetal anyone?), though I guess it's better than nothing.
