Bullying is an awkward thing. Let's have a bit of storytime.

I have always had a slight physical deformity, as well as social issues due to trust, guilt, and autonomy issues bestowed upon me by my parents. That made it very hard to make friends in elementary school, but it wasn't really a problem because I didn't know any better. Around when middle school started, being left alone stopped being what was happening. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was being bullied. I had never had a friend before, so I assumed that they were being my friends to a certain extent.

That continued through my high school graduation. I still thought that they were my friends, and I was very much depressed because I thought that that was as good as life got. I was miserable and frankly depressed, but I didn't even know it--I assumed it was normal, and everyone lived life like that.

But as an adult I can say, to my past self, to you, and to my own students, that it is not normal and it is not ok. Tell someone. Do not take it on by yourself, and do not give in to depression. I would have missed out on so many good moments had I succeeded in ending my life. It gets better, but you have to recognize what is going on, and ask for help.

Back in middle school and elementary are the only times i can recollect being bullied...

Btw im Mexican and black so im somewhat of a mixed breed. So I usually never got along with other "black guys" because i didnt act the way they did.

In elementary i got jumped by 3 fat kids on the playground. 1 sat on me while the others kept kicking me in the face or sides. They all had steel toes. -_- Bascially lost some teeth but thank god they were baby teeth.

In middle school, the black kids would always get mad when i didnt perform as well as they did in sports in P.E. so everytime i fucked up they would throw the basketball straight to the back of my head while i turned away. After something like that happened i would just walk away furious. Of course i had no friends back then so i would just sit in the highest bleacher. Hell i dont even think the P.E coach didnt give a damn. It was a super small town anyways.

Now that i think about it...... in highschool i went through an "emo/scene kid" phase in only 9th grade and would straighten my hair, paint my nails black and wear eyeliner.(oh gawd that pretty embarssing now xD) but yeah i was pretty weird, so obviously ppl would make fun. BUt at that point i started not caring wat others thought of me and started seeking friends that cared for who i was and wasnt a stuck up pretentious prick.

There was only once were I actually had a brawl with a bully back in secondary school only due to the fact I know he was being serious, he never spoke to me again lol :p.
To be honest and it's just an my opinion, if a bully was just teasing me I would just ignore him as I know his not worth it and it doesn't really affect me, but when it comes to something personal or he took a joke too far! that's when shit get's real.

:) hope everyone here has an effective way of dealing with bullies that doesn't affect their wellbeing and mental state :)

Random thought: Do you think some people allow bullies to bully them because they are masochists?

When I was in 5th grade my best friend was being bullied by the girl that sat next to her in class. Every morning when my friend would get to class this bully would say good morning to her by punching her repeatedly in the arm. I sat across from the two of them, so one day my friend asked me if I would trade seats with her, so I did. The next day when the bully showed up she sat next to me and proceeded to punch me in the arm whilst saying good morning. I told her not to do it again or she'd be sorry. The next day, undaunted by my warning, she did the same thing. So I proceeded to punch her so hard I knocked her right out of her seat! She went crying to the teacher but the teacher told her since she didn't see anything there was nothing she could do to me and under her breath she said to me, good for you. She never hit me or my friend again! To this day it still makes me smile thinking about the look on her face when I slugged her!

Why let people bully you?
#1: Resisting bullying is likely to get you into trouble with the school administration. They just want things to run smoothly, and you're rocking the boat.
#2: Resisting often increases the intensity of bullying. If you resist, instead of just tripping you, throwing you against a wall, or throwing stuff at you, they'll beat and bruise you.
#3: Bullies have allies. They are like a pack of wolves, if you resist, the other wolves will come to its aid.
#4: You're weak and cannot properly defend yourself without leading to #2
#5: The bully is just irritating and not honestly worth risking doing anything about it.

I've only been bullied by two people in my life. One was in middle school, which the reason he bullied me was that I was a loner, overweight, and pretty much would bully him whenever I saw him bullying someone. So, in the end, we were pretty much bullying each other, although it never come to much physical bullying, since I had the upper hand.
The second is my brother, so I still have to put up with it. The reasons I allow it is #2 and #4 (The fact he knows martial arts doesn't help either). He's the kind of guy who'd think nothing of breaking someone's arm for annoying him or "mocking" him. Self-defense to him means both defending himself from physical harm, and from attacks on his mood. So I'll have to put up with my NEET roommate brother until I get a better job and move out.
