Has anyone done this pilgrimage? One of my friends did it by car and did not enjoy as much as everyone else said. I'm doing by walking (for just a few days) this summer. If you have done it, by what means did you travel and how did you enjoy it?

I met a monk in a hostel in Nara who said he'd walked it more than once. Dude was in really good shape. XD

Doesn't the entire thing take like a month or so? Which parts are you going to visit?

I've never been to Shikoku, but I have been to dozens of shrines and temples. They're all uniquely beautiful, and if you like that style of scenery you'll enjoy it a lot. Definitely go out of your way to buy some kind of special souvenir from each one. It might add up at ¥500 a pop, but it's great to have something to remember your visit by, and the money goes to maintain the temples. I've got a map with little charms and keychains tacked up to it, and it holds some of my best memories.

Good luck!

Thank you very much! I appreciate it! I am going to do it in reverse order. It is supposedly supposed to bring good luck I hear. Have you heard the same?

I think you should do more reading on it...

A nice story of a few men who did it. They talk about how to camp, when they stayed in hotel/hostels or at temples...

I think this is the official English website about the pilgrimage:
http://www.shikokuhenrotrail.com/

If you're walking the entire pilgrimage you should be known that if you want to visit the 88 temples it will take 40 days on foot and if you want to visit all 108 temples it will take 50-55 days by foot.

A lot of people do the pilgrimage by public transportation now-a-days, but there are still people who do it on foot to get a feel of how it was originally done--plus there's more superstition about good luck and all that jazz.

Thank you for the links! I am definitely going to check those out. I'm not planning on doing the entire pilgrimage though, I'm only doing what I can for 4 days. I definitely am happy you have me the first link!
