Any girl who is either overtly Tsundere (the immature sort of tsundere, not the plain just bitch until I met the nice guy type) or overtly weak (Think Ayano from Kaze No Stigma or Misa from Death Note respectively) kinda annoys me.

I find the 'For girls only' part of your thread. Offensively Sexist.

It assumes that because I don't have the right plumbing that I cannot understand or empathize with your complaint. It also undermines your effort to support equality in Manga characters since 'For Girls Only' makes any effort on your part to preach gender equality an exercise in hypocrisy.

Both Guys and Girls are portrayed in many ways in manga, there are plenty of characters to like and dislike. There are PLENTY of strong cool female characters out there, Levy from Black Lagoon, the whole cast of Ikkitousen, Maki from Airmaster. Damsel in distress is a dying breed, and personally, AS A GUY, it is the breed of female character I dislike most as well.

Maybe it is just a Japanese mentality, but I notice that females in Shoujo mangas tend to be more vulnerable and useless than those in seinen and shonen mangas. That's right, comics aimed at girls (who claim to want independence) seem to promote the existence of a knight in shining armor male character who will save the female protagonist. Comics aimed at Men on the other hand tend to be filled with strong independent females, the only thing that may push women readers away is that these females are often portrayed sexually.

So you pretty much need to take your pick, non-sexualized girls with crappy personalities, or girls that have awesome personalities but are highly sexualized. I am a guy so the decision is easy for me.

If you want my opinion as a guy on female characters I hate, well I hate useless or troublesome female characters, Sakura, Orihime, Nyaruko, etc. I like smart, useful, and assertive female characters : Hinata from Naruto (Watch the Pain arc and you will understand why I like her), Rukia from Bleach, both Nami and Robin from One Piece, Cecily from Seiken no Blacksmith, Kururu from Air Gear, Marika from Nisekoi, Haruno (Yukino's sister) from SNAFU.

So my male interest in female characters may not be all that different from yours, sure I enjoy the ecchi side of things that girls may not, but personality-wise I find girls that I can respect not only more intriguing to watch, but in general hotter, than girls I cannot respect.

Also, mean and spiteful bitches like Flay Allster from Gundam Seed. I don't care if she supposedly "changed" towards the end. At one point, she even thoughtlessly and callously hurt a little girl's hand as she was plotting.

Personally, I'm more likely to dislike the creator's writing than the character itself. Typically it's not exactly the character's fault if their writer does a poor job with their personality and actions.

I very much dislike Infinite Stratos for this reason. Most of the female characters showed some sense of an individual personality at first but they rather quickly turned into nothing more than mildly different shades of horny for the main male protagonist. I got sick of promising characters in one episode being catty cardboard bimbos in the next.
At least we have the occasional anime and manga like Attack on Titan. There are several strong female characters and none of them (as far as I've seen) are sexualized. The only time in the official works I've seen any of the characters dressed down was with Mikasa dressed as a boxer, I believe. I was ridiculously happy to see that she had a six-pack. XD

That's an excellent point, I agree. There's no reason to exclude guys from this conversation. It's not as though men can't see these issues with female characterization, and to believe that it is is unhealthy for both men and women alike.

Something else I don't particularly agree with OP about is her feelings about weak female characters. Yes, it can feel a little frustrating when the only characters with any real strength are men, but it's unrealistic to expect that every character is going to have equal strength in fighting. It's okay for a character to be something other than ultra strong sometimes, just as it's okay for real people to be a little weak. That doesn't make them bad people or characters, it just makes them different.

Ho-jeez I've been rambling a lot. @_@ Let's hope this is still all relatively sensible when I re-read it after I get some sleep.

I hate it, not just on anime, but on lots of other shows where the women always scream because they see a body or something. Just thought I'd throw this in.

Oh did I mention this before? Sorry then. My point still stands.

And yes, seriously. the title is still there. "for girls only" should I instead report it to the mods?

I remember that scene...I think I stopped watching it because of that scene. The anime focused too much on her at that point, in my opinion at least

I totally get your point. It's amazing how much we think alike. I wrote this thread thinking of a few the female characters you mentioned...I guess I should have specified in "shounen manga" since that's pretty much all I watch/read and where I find those hateful characters. Thanks for stating your opinion without being mean or rude...I've been getting a lot of that here .

The focus on her was overbearing during that arc. I managed to pull through, but that was mostly because Netflix only shipped me one disk at a time and I had a special order of what I received. I would have 2-3 weeks between Gundam Seed disks, which gave me plenty of time to vent any frustration and cool off.

I remember watching Shugo Chara for the first time and my reaction was "FINALLY! A shojo heroine that isn't clumsy and struggles in school!" Shugo Chara and Ouran High School Host Club are proof that the girl can be smart, doesn't have to be a klutz, nor overly nice and can actually be a strong character. We need to see more of that. Shojo series these days need to make stronger leads.

But anyway to answer the question, one female character I dispise is Hitagi Senjogahara from Bakemonogatari. I hate that bitch with a passion. She is not a Tsundere even though it became her in-series nickname. She lacks many typical Tsundere traits. She's really a cold bitchy girl who is trying too hard to come off as a Tsundere. When she 'confessed' to Koyomi I was like WTF!? There was no build-up, no signs of affection from either party; suddenly they're dating. The relationship just happened and all through the series I thought they just didn't look like a couple.

For the record, I actually like bitches. I think many of them are rather interesting. But Hitagi fails at that. She is just trying to be something that she isn't. Her relationship with Koyomi looks shallow and fake to me and Bakemonogatari was one o the most boring and overrated shows I sat through.

You can be the first then. I don't really care. Just because a show is popular doesn't mean everyone likes it. We all have those. I had Bakemonogatari on my list for a while and thought I would like it. But instead I was very disappointed.
