Tutorial Name: How to Make Text Look Nice
Time It Takes Without Rushing: Less Than 5 minutes
Level Of Difficulty: Easy
Did You Create It?: I'm sure someone else did this before me so no.
So let's begin making nice text on Gimp.
You do not have to use a transparent background every time you make the text,
I'm just doing it as a demonstration. You can make it while your making an avii and etc.
Step 1) Go to File > New > Make the picture 400 x 400 > Advance Options (While still creating a new image) > Background > Transparency.
[You should have a 400 x 400 transparent background.]
Step 2) Go to Font > Chose your font (I chose Kingthings Spike) > Size > About 60 (varies with font and picture size) > Justify > Centered
[Font should be black without changing the color.]
Step 3) Alignment Tool > Click on text > Align > Align Center Of Target (looks like this: >|<) > Distribute > Distribute Horizontal Centers Of Targets
(looks like this: >|<). [This is just to make sure it's in the center of the image.]
Step 4) Change Foreground Color (top) > Your Color (i changed it to a dark-ish blue: 0641b7) > Background (bottom) > Keep It White
[Keeping the background white is important for the text to look neat]
Step 5) Text > Color > Same Color as Foreground Background.
[Text color must be the same as the Foreground color]
Step 6) Click on the Background > New Layer > Foreground Color > New Layer > Background Color
[There should be 4 layers in total]
Step 7) Click on Text > Layer > Text To Selection > Text To Selection
[You should see dashed, moving lines around the text. If it's not moving or you don't see line around the text, the text was not selected.]
Step 8) Select > Grow > Grow Selection > 2 > Select > Invert > Click on the white background > Edit > Clear
[The white background should look like it's giving the text an outline]
Step 9) Layer > Transparency > Alpha To Selection > Select > Grow > Grow Selection > 1 > Grow > Select > Invert > Edit > Clear > Select > None
[The Foreground color should look like it's give the white outline another outline]
Step 10) Right click text layer > Merge Down (to white layer) > Right click merged layer > Merge down (to foreground color layer)
[Now you should have 2 layers] [If you do not want a shadow effect on your text, skip to Step 12.]
**Step 11 is optional**
Step 11) Filters > Light And Shadow > Drop Shadow > Color (Keep it black), Opacity > 80 > Ok > Right Click > Merge Down
[Merge to drop Shadow layer so now there is 2 layers]
Step 12) Right click layer > Merge Down (to Background layer)
[Now you have the text onto 1 transparent layer]
or you may have this one if you did the Drop Shadow
Step 13) File > Save As > (insert name you want).png > Save > Pop Up (Export File) > Merge Visible Layers > Export >
Out of the 8 boxes to check, leave the 1st, 3rd and 4th one unchecked, Compression Level > 9 (highest level always) > Save
[And your done!]
