If we merge with malaysia it will be more worst, if you read singapore history you will know why. You merge with malaysia then we separate because malaysia create riot between chinese and malay.

I’m safe from this. I may download anime illegally but I also download porn. They’d be like, “Can we see your download history,” I’d be like, “Wear nose plugs.” They’d be to distracted by my porn to notice my anime. :P

Anyway, illegally downloading stuff is a crime. This being said, who cares, I’m doing it anyway! Except, I don’t download stuff because I’m afraid of viruses. So I don’t really download anime illegally. Well, either way, this law is a good law but its going to take consistency to enforce it. They’ll have to crack down and keeping cracking.

i'm a malaysian. i dont any riot between chinese and malay the prove is me! my dad is a malay. my mom is chinese. i dont have troble with it. and so does my friends. well, from what i read, singapore history was like, originally it was part of malaya, then, lee kuan yuu saz "those chinese in malaya(name before malaysia) are too weak & soft, we should have our own community". and so they create the new singapore. infact, look at singapore histories, long2 ago. the lagendary stories are malay character while most citezen in singapore to day are chinese.

parts of what u say may be true, but i seriously doubt that lee kuan yew say this
'chinese in malaya(name before malaysia) are too weak & soft, we should have our own community". Logically and politically, it is impossible.
That is definitely not the reason for the seperation. There were clashes of interests and many other reaons that causes singapore to be independent.

Moreover, i felt nth for the ban of chewing gum. It's rather trival.

I feel lucky I'm not living there as well. I would have died from the deprivation of anime. Anyway, does it only apply for torrents? You guys from singapore could try direct download sites, or ask friends (not from singapore) to upload it to sites such as sendspace/megaupload and so on.

singapore is a small country, there for there were quite a lot limitation, if there's too many anime, that would cause more video stores and more areas to be constructed.
@darkfinal; u shouldnt doubt it. u can ask malaysian chinese with age around 50+. ofcourse they wouldnt put it on yor history book. so does ours, coz it would create a lot controvercies and lead to a gap between malaysian chinese and singaporean chinese.

it's dangerous to download via bittorrent... apparently, those caught downloaded their anime via bittorrent. We'll see a hobby and passion declining eventually with such a move..

For one, the information from wikipedia may not be reliable on our history. You must have realised that anyone can edit those infomation as and when they wishes. In addition, a government should always have their citizen's interest at heart, for them to have such reckless behavious and delivering such speeches, it is highly unlikely for them to be able to lead our country to where it stands now. Do remember that our country is small and has few natural resources, it is the work of capable hands that could have brought our country to prosperity now. I will always remember to look at the big picture.

Aegis85 i don't believe that mm lee said that, and anyways singapore is a strict country new laws adding so that nothing bad will happen, and wikipedia can be edited by anyone like you and me. by the way i remembered we were asked by malaya to join you guys, and now malaysia keeps increasing their prices.

I've heard about this mess, i'm just glad i'm not in Singapore. Hope this doesn't give american companies any ideas, but most of them got into anime through fansubs so there is a bit of unspoken understanding between the industry and the fansubbers here.

that being said, i don't think signapore really has the same fan-culture history that the US does. one of the cool things about anime to me is it's a fan made industry. nobody wanted to bring anime over, so we brought over ourselves. we subbed and we distributed it not for profit, but out of sheer love for the art form. once we made that fanbase, then the industry followed. that's why the industry puts up with most of our shit more or less. the whole "biting the hand that feeds them" thing.

i don't think signapore has that history in it's fanculture, so it's hard to legitimize the fans stance over there. but i have heard that odex puts out really shitty releases, and it's seems they're up to general monkey business. well, all i can say is that fans in signapore need to fight for their anime. send a petition to odex saying that even if they win that they won't purchase anime from them just because of how poorly it treated it's customer base, something like that.
