Do certain hair colors in anime have a meaning?

Probably just the way I see it, but I noticed that in anime characters with some hair colors have very specific personalities most of the time, especially females.

For example, girls with red hair are usually very strong, loud, on-you-face tsundere types; girls with dark blue hair are the "perfect" types, good at school, nice with everybody; girls with green hair are the cool ones, laid back, sarcastic, apparently cold and detached; blondes are bubbly, funny, shameless, kinda perverted; those with pink hair are the sweeties, lolified, "mary sue" types.

For males is a bit different, but there are many anime guys with silver/grey air who are usually funny, cool, lazy and quite badass in their own unique ways.

Of courese this doesn't apply EVERY single time, but I've seen it happen a lot.

It means that japanese people generally have black hair naturally and a lot of them would rather have something else.

Im not sure but maybe:

RED means hot headed
WHITE means serious or having a violent personality
YELLOW means energetic

not sure it depends on the character

I don't really think that's the reason. It's more of some sort of personality code.

Most animes with romance have the leading lady with pink or redhair. At least that is what I have noticed.

It's a simple character mold for rom-coms and harems. The OP pretty much has the pattern down. I'd add that usually blondes are usually British ex-patriots or returnees and are rich and brown hair usually means they are a side character of friend of the main. Black hair is usually the reserved type that might be a yandere, the Yamato Nadeshiko, or just another side character.

green and blue tend to blur a bit.. typically they're the calm, collected type, often the intelligent or over-achieving ones. This is likely due to the shift in meaning for "aoi" from a greener hue to a richer blue one over the last several generations.
Hair colors in general follow a pattern not unlike the color Ranger types, and to a certain extent they lean towards the colors associated with the eastern zodiac personalities.

It probably doesn't have any meaning because there are a lot of green, pink, red and whatever color that's left in there that contradict your post. Just honestly speaking :T

the colors don't mean anything...anime characters were originally given weird hair colors...just so the viewers could tell them apart from one another...and if u don't believe me go ask a artist who worked on anime back in the 60s..70's...80s...

Just off the top of my head,Yotsuba has green hair... So with her in mind, no.

Although i've never really noticed it before, i guess they could have some meaning...? I'm not sure.

While this is the original reason, that isn't to say that some sort of symbolism hasn't seeped in over the years. I've never really paid too much attention, other than to notice that blue tends to be more shy and reserved, which tells me why I prefer so many guys in blue hair...
