This is not a rant about how terrible the new line up of cartoons is or how newer cars and things are terrible or anythign else alogn those lines. My question is why do we as individuals feel that the older things, such as a favorite childhood television program or song, are better than what is being thought up and published nowadays. Is it simply nostalgia or was the quality of the TV show/song, etc. better than it is today?

I think it's more of a nostalgic feel for the older things as that was what shaped you and has been around longer. What do you all think?

I think it's because to the people who like the newer things and have only experienced the new, we can brag about the good in all the old things that people didn't have.

Memories probably play a part in it I guess, I find a lot of the music today to be hard to listen too. the only new artists I like are Bruno, B.O.B. and Travie Mccoy. A lot of what they call punk and alternative now days sounds identical.

Kids toys today on the other hand, WTF they are soooo freaking cool, makes me wish I was a kid again. NERF, LEGO, Action figures, are all leagues better than what I used to have.

I think memories do play a part a lot of times but personally I think that a lot of the newer things put to much attention in how everything looks and that causes the overall quality to suffer, at least when it comes to the newer video games.

Warning rant and some personal opinions ahead, click at your own peril:

I know the durability of some handicrafts and even tecnological products was higher in the past.

Of course modern tv's and montors are as an example better performing than old ones but they are not even close as strong.

Let me give you an example.

I use a computer that is literally state of the art, I upgrade it yearly to the newest specs, however my monitor is arround 11 years old and it can't even support all the resolutions my computer's parts would allow.

Why do I use it though?

This monitor has been on almost non stop use for all that time, I switch it on and off constantly I watch tons of shows from it, I play countless of games and pretty much spend every second of my time home somehow related to it, it being open least on the back while I listen to music ect.. and such.

Yet its colors haven't even dimmed bit, it has fell to floor about half dozen times and on the latest time its entire front cover broke open, literally giving about 10 cm ( 4 inch) gap between the actual screen and back cover on the floor, letting you view insides loud and clear yet the anime running on the monitor didn't even stop ( my table broke and it was newer than the monitor). I snapped it back in fix, repaired the table and slammed it back on, everything was as good as ever.

I did similiar fumble to newer monitor, didn't work after that. Gonna use this fella till hell freezes.

It depends.
I like new computers and cellphones.

I hate new movie revamps/remakes.

To put it simply, I hate when people take old ideas and try to recycle them into new things.

I like new thing better ^^ of course they are some example like movie that are nostalgic, Star wars 4,5,6 but if they were to make a remake i wouldn't mind at all maybe some scene wouldn't fail like they did and princess leia would finally look good xD

While technology is advancing to become better, it is starting to become more delicate. Something that would last a life time in the past (well more my parents time) such as a T.V. set barely makes it past 5 years now. It doesn't matter though cause with the rate of technological advancement you generally end of changing the old for the new within three years max.

Feeling nostalgic however bout things is a different matter.

I believe it somewhat depends on what we grew up on. I see shows I used to watch as a child and that I grew up on and it fills me with memories of my younger days. I see cars I used to ride in with my family and the same feelings come to pass. I Hear music I listened to in my younger days and you guessed it. I feel the same feelings. To me the things of old I grew up on are special to me and they mean very much to me.

Not really that they are better to me then the new things as some of the newer things are quite nice as well. Simply that the old things give me feelings and memories the newer things have yet to establish in my heart.

Nothing is or will ever have been better than Toonami anime bumps and promos.

Nastalgia anyone? See if you can spot the deeper messages.
