For me i don't like having fan service because all the Anime's that i've watched that had fan service always turned out to be mainly focused on that more than the story like High School of The Dead, Motto to love ru, Ore tachi ni tsubasa wa nai. Sure i'm aware that there are some anime's that have an echi genre but i don't think fan service should be the primary focus of the show sure it's okay to see it once or twice but showing it more than 5 times is where it clearly shows that the writers are running out of idea's to fill the time in for the time slot and that they're trying to make the viewers feel horny, uncomfortable if they're watching it with someone which is why i watch some of my anime alone. Besides don't we already have hentai that separates that horny audience already? Let me know what you think.

I think there is a large group of people that don't mind the fanservice itself (i.e, they could take it or leave it), but very much mind the perception they feel it gives others of anime.

I hate it, I mean there are some great story lines but.... really? I think animes could do without it, maybe one or two is fine but not most of them

we already have plenty of threads about ecchi in anime, refer to here. Fan service is such an abused word as now, what you are refereeing to is ecchi. True fan service is something that appeals or pleases the fans to a great point, "what you mentioned is a low point', the true meaning would be like a confession, hearing a favorite voice actor/ actresses, watching old rivals dual it out, romance undertones with the under dog characters. That's the meaning of it, peace out.

on a side note to love ru, kankon and ladies vs butlers, strike witches, hotd etc are some of my guilty pleasure series, nothing really wrong with that but not ever single anime can be "deep" or "serious" all the time. If they where I would have stopped watching a long time ago. Also refer to older anime like touch that was done in 1985 that still had panty shots, or ranma 1/2 that has bear chest ever other epiosde which came out in the 90's. Heh anime is getting tame compared to what it used to be.

I find fanservice incredibly boring, along with the "checklist" harem that usually are present in fanservice shows. The same girls appear in the same types of shows. Over and over again. Sometimes the character designs are slightly different, and the writing may make an attempt at some sort of a "plot", but we all know who these shows are made for; the guys in Japan who can't deal with anything that's not in 2-D. Shows like this sell to these same guys, over and over, at super inflated prices. For some reason, they must include the tired and recycled fanservice "jokes" and checklist characters or this audience will rebel and not buy the product.

I mean, really. These "jokes" and characters have been done so many times, that their inclusion has ceased to make anime edgy, instead rendering it blandly homogeneous. But these shows aren't made for "us", they are made for that Japanese audience - the one with the really low birth rate.

Even some of the shows that aren't so fanservice focused, moe shows in particular, still include the same harem of boring female character tropes. I don't even bother watching those things anymore. My time is much better spent reading a book.

Fortunately, there are really good, creative shows here and there. I watch those.

edited to add: Actually, I think that more guys should watch those shows that have fanservice aimed at women. They are very informative as to what women actually like. hint. hint.

Pretty much the same here. Though my main issue with ecchi/fan service shows is useless/dumb/dense main characters. The ending of Ladies vs Butlers was so infuriating. Why are such main characters so popular? I just don't understand it, is like 70% of the male population in Japan completely useless or what?

Ranma 1/2 the manga was amusing, but in the end the story never went anywhere and the characters didn't really have any redeemable values that was good enough to keep me reading it.

Most of the time I'll avoid such shows, but I need some guilty pleasure once in a rare while.

That might explain the low birth rate.

the only reason i think the male lead was popular in ladies vs butlers because he was a bit of alpha male, to be honest I would love to see a harem anime where the male lead is an aggressive asshole "school does not count never will" and knows who wants, and will do anything to get her. This is just a personal wish however, I am not going to lie with you i think most males are taking beta blockers as of now. Rito i suppose I can understand he is just a well "nice guy type" and despite being dense he does know who he loves.

Well, there is always School Days.. Which I personally haven't seen, but I know how it ends and somewhat how the characters are.

I'd like to see more anime shows with cyberpunk, I wouldn't mind fan service at all, as long as it wasn't a harem. Because most harem anime shows end up in either a) a stalemate, nothing really happens since MC is a dense useless person b) picks a character you don't really like - and yet the other characters in the harem don't give up on the MC

It is so one-tracked. Nothing new or exciting.

For me it depends on how well it's done, honestly I have grown sick of the harem genre in general since i watched nothing but those for 5 years straight. If a good series comes along w/ some romance "due in part i play a lot or romance visual novels". that sparks my interest despite having what the topic is about. Okay I am done de-railing the thread the only thing I will add though is this Yousga no sora was okay, Kiss x Sis was utter garabage and should have never had t.v. run.

I enjoy good looking characters, but when they put in a lot of fan service it's a bit too much.
