So, I've been watching several series here and elsewhere and I got a question: do anime characters disappear into a black hole once they graduate college? Every single show seems to be college age or younger kids. What's a good show on CR that's not set with high schoolers?

....hmmm i hate to break it to there is little to none as of now, even back in the 80's it was the same way. The only thing i can suggest is watching umineko, higuarshi, cow boy be-pop, Tri-Gun, Gurren Lagann, Kurua that's all I recommend, some of them are in school but the horror element makes up for it.

30-sai no Hoken Taiiku

Synopsis
Imagawa Hayao is a 30 year-old virgin bachelor. One day, a cupid descends from heaven with the express purpose of forcing him to graduate from virginity. Thus unfolds a pure love story between a 30 year-old bachelor and a 30 year-old bachelorette.

Haven't seen it yet to be honest.

EDIT: Oops sorry Crunchyrol doesn't have this one.

There are a few anime out there that have more "mature" characters. I think most anime have school kids as main characters because that's their target audidnece.

An anime called hataraki man is about working adults, ghost in the shell I don't think the characters are terribly young at all ?

But as for shows on CR that have adult main characters, I don't know any sorry, unless you count Gintama who's like 30 something.

at the beginning of the series:

Gintoki - 20
Shinpachi - 16
Kagura - 14
Hijikata - 21
Okita - 17
Katsura - 21
Kondo - 28
Otae - 19
Sa-chan - 20

Later in the series:

Gintoki - 23
Shinpachi - 19
Kagura - 17
Hifikata - 24
Okita - 20
Katsura - 24
Kondo - 31
Otae - 22
Sa-chan - 23

Yeah Gintoki is not 30 years old. http://gintama.livejournal.com/404315.html
Source not that reliable, but you can believe what you want.

I don't have time to look to see if these are on Crunchyroll but

Kodomo No Jikan's main character Aoki is 23 years old. Out of college and a teacher.

Rurouni Kenshin's Kenshin is either 28 or thirtyish.

The Saiyuki men are in their twenties. (they didn't go to college. XD)

Pretty sure the main character from Monster is out of college

Gene from Outlaw Star is well into his twenties.

Shidou from Nightwalker is past college age.

And so is everyone from Shinesman.

Moribito is on Crunchyroll. The main character, Balsa, is 30 years old. Chagum is pretty young but there's nothing high school-ish about it.

Out of all of those, Monster would definitely be in line with what mitojee was looking for, but like all the others except Saiyuki, it is not on Crunchryroll. If mitojee is in the United States, however, it is available on Hulu.

It's not on CR, but you could try Tiger and Bunny. DON'T LOOK AT THE TITLE LIKE THAT. IT'S NOT WHAT YOU THINK. It's about superheroes and stuff. I haven't seen it yet though.
It's available legally streaming here for the UK: http://www.anime-on-demand.com/video/12107/#play-1 and here for the US: http://www.viz.com/
