Also, the DVD/Blu-ray for Index S2 sold 10,000+. Season 3 is just a matter of time. (There's an article somewhere in ANN about 5 series)

For me Mirai Nikki is at the top of my list. Been waiting YEARS for an anime adaption. Heck I got into the series from a fake anime trailer I saw on this site back in it;s pirating days...I just pray the series is somewhere between 38 and 52 episodes.

I really don;t want the anime team to try to shove 4 years worth of manga material into 26 episodes. They have all of the source material since the manga;s done so I pray they choose to expand on it rather than rush through it. Also hoping the anime will include stuff from the Mosaic and Paradox side volumes since those were sort of relevant to the main story.

Will not happen. The best that the adaptation can do is 24-26 episodes. I expect it to be 12-13 episodes.
Anyway, don't expect anything from the anime since the anime studio asread has mostly mediocre works (except Ga-Rei-Zero w/c is actually a joint with AIC Spirits).

Well I know not to expect much from the studio in terms of animation quality, but I see no reason for them to cut the anime short. They have all of the source material so it wouldn;t make sense not to use it, not to mention that they did the OVA a while back to make sure there was an actual audience for an anime adaption so clearly the fact that it;s being made is an indication that it;s popular enough to animate it all.

Plus there;s no real benefit to Kadokawa not animating the whole thing. I mean the all the tankobans are out in Japan so it;s not like the anime would provide a miracluous boost in sales for them, so I;m guessing the anime is being made on it;s own merits meaning there'd be no benefit in cutting off at some random place.

That being said I don;t think 30 something episodes is that much of a stretch, but I guess it;s best to get a confirmation.

It's about budget. If you have been watching anime produced within the last 2-3 years, you can notice that more 1-cour anime were produced regardless of its source material. It's less risky to produce a 1-cour anime. Most anime series that ran for a year (50-52 episodes) are either shounen, generic magical girls aimed at kids, family-friendly shows (like Kaasan, Sazae-chan, Detective Conan), or merchandise-driven. Guess why.

tl;dr: Budget takes precedence before availability of source material.

I thought I remembered the DVD sales for it doing well. Do you happen to know off the top of your head how Railgun failed in that respect?

I assume there would not be any problem with lack of material from the Index manga by Fall 2012. Even if so, I see Wikipedia indicates the manga skipped the events in the second and fourth light novels, so there is always the possibility of using that as the basis for some type of semi-canon filler.

(JC Staff adapts the Toaru Majutsu no Index from the Light Novels, not from the manga)

The second season of Index covered vol. 7 to vol. 13 of the Light Novels. Currently, Index LN has 24 volumes and its sequel Index: New Testament has 1 volume. So definitely there's no problem when it comes to the source material. They're probably milking on the franchise before announcing the 3rd season.

Meanwhile for Railgun, it sold 24000+ copies (average). Kore wa Zombie desu ka sold 7000+ and a second season was announced. Put two and two together.

EDIT: Sorry if I seem to type short. But you get the idea.

Note that it is in the OVA/OAD/ONA section; it isn't a series. It isn't at all unusual for an OVA (sometimes more than one) to be released after a series is completed.

So it seems the only real snag for a second Railgun series this Fall would be the lack of source material. Given that it appears the first series was sourced from only 3 volumes, and 6 volumes currently exist, at first glance there would not appear to be a problem. That said, as I recall there was some significant filler in that series, and there appears to be some substantial crossover of the latter half of volume 6 with what was already covered in the first Index series.

UPDATE:

It appears we may have the first licensed simulcast of Fall 2011 already:

Has it been confirmed that Last Exile: Fam the Silver Wing will be a Fall 2011 series? In any case, I am excited for the series.

When I read that "Maji de Watashi ni koi Shinasai!!!" was getting an anime adaption I was like "What the ....!?" *surprised*
I never played the visual novel game, but about 1-1.5 yr ago I stumble upon the intro to the game, at the time I didn't know that it was an intro for the game, so I thought it was an intro to a anime ,anyway going by the intro and finding out that it was the game's intro I thought to myself this should be an anime.

I'm looking forward to seeing "Maji de Watashi ni koi Shinasai!!!"

It was announced for 2011, and given that I don't see how they could get it out for Summer, that leaves only one season.

I am somewhat surprised they will have the first episode ready to premier at Anime Expo.

They did announce that they were going to be premiering the first episode at AX on February 18, so they have been working on it probably since then (as well as the other episodes). I am thinking that there will be more information as to when the series starts showing in Japan when the people who worked on the series are in LA next week.

i want to see Deadman wonderland OVAs! I got kinda hooked on the series a few weeks ago and love the intro to it

Fate/Zero and Persona for me.

I hope they don't turn either into short series-- like 12 or so episodes. Both can only be told by doing it in length and hitting as much as the original ground as possible.

Last Exile: Fam the Silver Wing is a Fall 2011 series. Funimation, the company that licensed the series, states that the release date for the simulcast will be October 25, 2011. The official site reflects that the series will begin in October, but doesn't have an exact date.

I love looking ahead at anime and deciding what I'm definitely going to watch. (I always end up picking up a few series on the way as well). For sure, I want to see:

Guilty Crown
Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon
Coppelion
Phi Brain: Kami no Puzzle
Mirai Nikki
Kimi to Boku

I think those look pretty fun!
