I'm looking for something that has humour but has a serious or dark plotline. Something along the lines of anime like Reborn, Air Gear, Black Blood Brothers, Kekkaishi and Gakeun Alice. Any genres are fine.
And please don't recommend the more popular animes like naruto, bleach and d.gray man.

You should seriously try Tsubasa Chronicle, which is super awesome and matches totally your desired genre of anime, wat's more it is made by clamp. And maybe Shugo Chara, Rental Magica, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Gakuen Alice, Night Wizard The Animation, Full-metal alchemist, Zero No Tsukaima.

Errr, I would suggest to you Eureka 7 (lots of mecha, action, comedy, and fantasy) Also, if you're really have the patience, watch Inuyasha--but the ending is horrible, and it takes forever. (There are 2xx eps) yeah... Both of them are licensed in US, but it's still very good... OH! And also Fullmetal Alchemist and Death Not. That's licensed too though. Haha.

you will definetly like elemental gelade, it has comedy fighting and romance, its 26 eps so fairly short.... its not school life, its more fantasy...... also it has some of the best characters ever like cisque the money obsessed under developed government agent.......

Well if u want to know, its about a world called Guardia where there is a species of people called Eldel raids (some subs say Eden raids) live, when an eldel rarid reacts witha human then it becomes a weapon. So hunters track down and capture these people to sell them. the main character is a sky pirate named coud. on a raid on a rich ship he discovers an eldel raid girl called Rverie Netherlance (just ren for short) who is an uber powered eledel raid called a shicohoge (spelled wrong) andthen the ship is attacked, right then they meet with 3 arc aile agents(they protect eldel raids) who want to buy her, this makes coud mad that they treat her like property so he refuses. so him and ren have to fight some ninjas(not as corny as it sounds) and get off the ship with the 3 agents..... they then spend the series going on adventures trying to get ren to Eldel garden(a place where eldel raids live).

also if u can find it the english dubs they r actually beter than japanes with subs so watch it....

Furi Kuri !!!!) and Kino no Tabi (Kino's Journey !!!!). More specifically to fighting: Grappler Baki, Hajimi no Ippo (fighting spirit?), History's strongest disciple Kenichi and Tenjho Tenge.
(Note: This probably doesn't stick to the format/layout particularly well so sorry but i tried.)

You can try Lovely complex. Pure shoujo and quite funny.
