Here is a list of everything I have watched or am currently watching. http://myanimelist.net/animelist/Lil_Wayne. May have missed one or two, but I think I got them all.

Character Development, great artwork, great music are all huge pluses to me and will make any suggested anime more enjoyable for me.

Like the anti-hero type character. I love to battles of wit rather than physical prowess.

I'm also an avid manga reader and am currently reading Liar Game which I love.

Chrono Crusade, GetBackers, Kekkaishi and Kenichi all sound good so i'll check em out. Also I love Initial D :3. And Samurai Champloo was good. And I've seen all the others and they didn't catch my interest.

Only one comes to mind
Akagi - It it about the story of how the legendary gambler became legendary, it is about a game and gambling on another level.
He doesn't change his way of being, don't remember music and the artwork is normal, you will like the character which makes up for all of it.

Serial Experiments Lain - Among it's genres are Psychological and Mystery, it becomes a bit wtf, but still a great anime
Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro - Has Mystery and Comedy in the genres, but at times it could have thriller and horror as well,

Knew I missed one. I have seen Lain already. Akagi deals with mahjong right? Not too familiar with the game so Im not sure I could really appreciate it to its fullest extent but I will give it a shot. Will also check out Majin as well, even though its not exactly up my alley. Thanks for the recommendations though.

Around Akagi, you really don't need to know Mahjong, it is more about the atmosphere, I don't know the game after seeing it and need to learn the rules if I do play the game. (also seen Saki another anime on Mahjong, still don't know the rules )

Genres that I wish to be recommended: Horror. I want nice, real horror; Another fed this craving but alas, it'll be over soon. :< I want gruesome deaths, perhaps supernatural elements, and a nice mystery that keeps you thinking.

Comments: Out of the anime I listed, Another is the best example of what I'm looking for and Higurashi the least. Higurashi was great once I got into it, but I felt like the whole killer-loli thing was a bit distracting; the art style wasn't very appealing either.

It has great characters and a fun and twisty subplots.
If you like sport' n game anime The Prince of Tennis, and Slam Dunk are also great

Blue Gender - Alien invaded earth... (Adventure, Drama, Horror, Mecha, Romance, Sci-Fi, Space, Military)
Elfen Lied - Good story, romance, bloody dismemberment and great art (Action, Drama, Ecchi, Horror, Romance, Psychological)
Hellsing/ Hellsing Ultimate - Vampires, gouls, Alucard, shooting, biting, ripping, nazis (Action, Mystery, Drama, Horror, Super Power, Vampire, Seinen)

Just for the mystery part I would like to add this:
Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro - Detective literary from hell (Comedy, Mystery, Drama, Supernatural)

Okay I got a couple for you

Umineko No Naku No Koro Ni - I believe the same guys who did Higarashi did this

Mirai Nikki (ongoing) - Psycho girl killing everyone

Death Note - assuming you've seen this but if you havent. Its great. It has horror aspects, but its more of a psychological thriller.

Monster - I list this last because I think you should watch it last. It is exactly what youre looking for. A horror anime that spans 74 episode. It is the most completely done anime I have seen to date. This is truly a masterpiece. It starts out slow, but it picks up relatively quick (I think within 3 episodes), and will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what happens next.

So many to choose from, what do you suggest I watch next? Some of my past favorites are Toshokan Sensou, Gunslinger girl, Chobits, High School of the dead, and Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei.

- I'm trying to find an anime that involves one or all of the following- zombies, panchira, survival, adventure, comedy, and horror. I'd like to avoid school themes, overboard hentai, or sci fi. I really realllly like the soundtrack to Sayonara zetsubou-sensei

Comments: I am a magical girl fan, but I prefer the magical girl theme presented in Madoka Magica, or anything with something more than just transformation scenes, sloppy fights and stereotypical romance. I am totally up for darker themed anime, but I like to stay away from excessive gore and any hentai/ecchi. I don't mind if it is shounen-ai or shoujo-ai as long as it has a good story. It'd be awesome if the anime had all of the genres I like, because I do like the travelling aspect of One Piece and the large epic battles, but also the subtle and edge-of-your seat moments from Monster. Thanks for helping me out :3

Btw, for future references, no need to make an expanded list. Just a few series would do and no need to list episode numbers as it makes it harder to go through down the list to find similar series.

From that list? I would choose Highschool of the Dead and Chobits. If you like Shaft's unique style of word play, Sayonara is also a good series to watch.

Another - streaming here atm on CR
Elfen Lied - one of my favorites. Watch it if you can take the violence.
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha series - watch especially the 2nd season. Movie also coming out later this year
Black Rock Shooter - currently airing about half way through. OVA is also worth checking out.
Denpa teki na Kanojo - I watched this recently and thought was pretty decent.
Uta Kata - magical girl series that contains adult themes.
Mai-Hime - excellent soundtrack and good storyline theme
Mai-Otome - same as above.
Freezing - has some ecchi but good action. Manga also worth checking out.
