The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (this is a must see) - The show's directors did this weird thing where they purposely and jokingly aired the series out of chronological order. If you watch it as shown... the first episode will be SUPER TERRIBLE (it's a big joke). While many would disagree with me, I generally recommend people watch it in chronological order which is: 2,3,5,10,13,14,4,7,6,8,1,12,11,9

Looking for (not neccasarily all at once) anime that is serious, but not "doomsday (almost) everyone on Earth dies a from a massive war at the end" dark,

Emotionally heart warming almost... comforting.

I don't like fan service (yup, a guy that finds it boring and even intimidating, but that's another story) but will tolerate a breast joke or two since they are hard to avoid.

Mushi-shi comes to mind, but it's not on crunchy roll unfortunately.
Natsume Yujin-cho was pretty heartwarming as wel.

I think "Chobits" is the one everyone talks about. I'm not sure I'd recommend it, but lots of people liked it.

Saw Chobits, had mixed feelings about it's first 2/3 (not much of a fanservice fan), I did like Rozen Maiden (I even import the second manga), Key The Metal Idol (Pinocchio spin off in a way), I have heard Saber Marionette is good and potentially heart warming.

Hm, sorry then, I can't really recommend any living doll anime.

Mushi-shi fits the other things you were asking for though. It used to be on crunchyroll. I'm not sure why they took it down. It's on Hulu now if you live in the US.

I like anime that has a gray tone but in most cases, anime about the world being eliminated/war, giant robots, ecchi and exaggerated amounts of blood are quite boring to me, so much I fall asleep watching them at times.

I do like lots of spaceships, 3rd person speakers, realistic fighting (as opposed to DBZ, Bleach etc), random comedy (hail Bobobo-dono), fantasy, 4th wall breaking and silly faces when goofy moments occur.

Shugo chara
Can't remember name but starts with e and is about a telepathic serial killer with pink hair who loses her memory.
One where where a guy goes it school and works in it and has 2 girls move in with him and they both fall for him but one turns out to be his long lost sister.
A few other random ones. Pretty much I am after anything that is funny, but can has a bit of serious stuff to. Something that can make you laugh and cry at the same time. Something mature and can be either sci fi or fantasy. Romance with a slice of life sort of thing. If anyone understands what i mean and can help me out that would be great!
