Recommend me an Anime! **Read First Post!**

Looking for a good anime with lots of episodes. I like genres such as action, adventure, some comedy, and some mecha. Some shows I've liked are Hunter x Hunter, Sword Art Online, Reborn!, Blue Exorcist, Tegami Bachi, Durarara, Eureka 7, Phi Brain, and a few of the Gundams. I don't want to watch Gintama, Naruto, or Bleach as I've seen them. If the anime can be found on CR that would be great as I want more bang for my buck.

Nice thread setup. Been reading through a bit of it and thought of just asking myself.
Looking for either a series, or movies. Length doesn't matter. Prefer darker overtones with a fairly well done plot. Action scenes wouldn't hurt. I'll throw down a simple list for taste comparison: Enjoyed Green Legend Ran FMA: Brotherhood Samurai Champloo Mushishi Karas Paprika The Evangelion reboot movies Porco Rosso Genius Party Didn't Enjoy (For one reason or another) Bleach Pretty much anything moe - I'll trust your opinions though So far I've been looking at Darker than Black, xxxHolic, Blue Exorcist, Ergo Proxy, Paranoia Agent, Serial Experiments: Lain, Garden of Sinners, Mononoke, Guilty Crown, and Hunter X Hunter, but it's a bit of a sensory overload for me, and I've shuffled through my share of let downs, so I'd like to ask here for recommendations on the above, and anything else, before jumping in too deep on any one series - don't particularly have the patience at this time. Thanks for any and all help! |

Thanks for any and all help! Lain was my first anime, so I have difficulty being rational about it, but it's definitely something, I know little about Guilty Crown, and I'd say Hunter x Hunter is definitely the odd man out in this version of "one of these things is not like the others". Darker than Black was definitely the first thing that came to my mind when I read your list of comparisons. If you're going to do xxxHolic, you should also go with Tsubasa, (they're concurrent storylines) but the Tsubasa anime sucks. And I'd actually suggest, rather than xxx, go with X (aka X/1999). Still by Clamp, way weirder. Garden of Sinners was pretty good. I've only seen the first one, but it should tell you if you'll like the rest. My overall thought is thus: Ditch Hunter x Hunter. It's a darker shounen series, but it's still a shounen series. I also seem to recall that it had a gecko ending. Watch Kara no Kyoukai's (Garden) first movie. If you hate it, drop it. (2 down). Watch Darker than Black, because it sounds perfect for you. Then move on to Ergo Proxy -> Lain -> Paranoia Agent -> Mononoke. (Increasing levels of terror). Then possibly X/1999. Top off with Gulty Crown and Blue Exorcist. (Which will give me time to check out G.C. and I can pm you about it.) Then consider Kaze no Stigma which will be a nice darkish seinen action series with a pretty righteous ending to end off your anime spree with a bang. |

Hello, I'm new to crunchyroll but not anime. I saw my first anime around 1992 on the scifi channel. Lensman, Robot Hunter Casshern, and then rented Bubblegum Crisis from Blockbuster.
Anyways, my daughter is almost 5 yrs old and will probably be attending a total immersion japanese school Fall 2013. 50% Japanese speakers and 50% English. So I'm looking to expose her to the language. I remember a series (probably 2002) about a pre teen girl who is new in town and sees the latest sport which is fighting dolls (no bloodshed). I don't remember the name but think this COULD PROBABLY be appropriate for a 4 year old and hold my attention also (I'm 37). I know this isn't much to go on but I would appreciate any help Thanks in advance |

Hi, I was wondering if someone here could rec me some good anime that has a darker storyline and is more mature; less silliness etc. The big thing I want is violence of the brutal and realistic sort. I loved Neon Genesis Evangelion (the original series and the Rebuild moives), and I enjoyed Darker than Black, Full Metal Alchemist, etc. I'm currently in the middle of watching Code Geass R2, but I find the violence too cartoony, and the mechs too silly (one thing I enjoyed the most about NGE was how real everything felt). I've started watching Ghost in the Shell SAC, but the second episode with the little robots that talk nearly made me quit the series. If someone could tell me whether it gets better, that would be awesome.
And sorry if something along these lines have already been answered, I don't really want to have to scroll through 750 pages of recommendations |

I need some anime suggestions! I like basically all anime, as long as its reasonable quality. I like funny and serious animes, and fighting animes, and animes that really are just cute girls doing cute things. Like CLANNAD, Hunter X Hunter, and K-ON!. I guess i like sad animes too, like Angel Beats! and AnoHana. Id prefer animes that dont have animation like D Gray Man and Yu Yu Hakusho, though i liked those. I like animes like Working!! and Ouran HSHC and Gosick....Basically, my favorite genre would be a lighthearted, funny anime, or maybe a romantic comedy like Lovely Complex and Skip Beat!. ...I dunno if listing this helped u or aggravated u.
Anyway, just recommend me your favorites! |

Ok, here are some good ones on Crunchyroll...
1.) Hunter X Hunter (2011) - My favorite fighting anime. Great characters. 2.) My little Monster - If you want a romantic comedy. I personally like this one very much. 3.) Sword Art Online - Of course. Im sure youve heard of it. Great animation, cool plot. 4.) Working!! - One of my personal favorites. I just LOVE all the characters! Its funny, too. 5.) Blue Exorcist - Great fighting anime with cool twists. 6.) The Tower of Druaga - My brothers favorite anime. I like the characters, and its got a little love story on the side, though its mostly fighting. 7.) Skip Beat! - Im still fangirling about this....I REALLY LOVE IT. Eeven though its kinda incomplete, the manga continues the great story! 8.) Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee - Love the main character, but he might really annoy you. Cool plot and i like the characters. 9.) Toradora! - ..Because of Taiga 10.) Gosick - My favorite detective anime. It made me laugh, cry, and think. Really great! 11.) Natsume Yujincho - Hmm..I use it as a filler, its pretty good. All the episodes are different and interesting. 12.) Another - Seriously creepy. Be ready for gore if u watch this. The last episodes are just bloodbath...Still, i liked it 13.) Angel Beats! - It had the best animation and is well known for being sad..not for making sense. ;) 14.) The Melancholy of Huruhi Suzumiya - Totally weird plot, but episode 0 is hilarious. Like all the characters and goo animation. 15.) AnoHana - Oh, gosh..It will make you cry at the end..good animation and characters, plus a plot twist or two. One to watch. 16.) Ano Natsu De Matteru - A cute love story. Seriously, thats all i have to say. o_o For two bonuses: 1.) Squid Girl - It made me want tentacles for hair. And my own chibi. Really funny! (And its just ONE cute girl, so) 2.) Kimi Ni Todoke - Now im gonna go re-watch this. My favorite female character is the main character and its just SO RIDICULOUSLY SWEET!! (Its a romance-comedy btw) |

Im looking for some more animes that are similar to Hunter X Hunter. I like animes with centralized characters that are very powerful, more so I guess I would say almost like a super hero show. (Love all thoes movies like spider man, adventegers, ect). And i like it when the charcters have unordinary abilities that are unique.
The ones i have seen and liked so far are: Hunter X Hunter Black Cat Naruto Yu yu Hakusho Inuyahsa So i want something along the lines of thoes Thanks |

Hey guys, it would be great if you could recommend me some new anime. I've watched quite a lot. Some of my favorites are:
-Xam'd: Lost Memories -Eureka 7 -Wolfs Rain -Fullmetal Alchemist -Kuragehime -Ergo Proxy -Code Geass -Panty and Stocking -Welcome to the NHK -Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 I know these are all very different in themes, but if you like the same stuff, and you have other favorites, please share. Also, I'll just put it out there that I'm not that big a fan on anime that is very "ditzy" and simple. I like complex things that really stick with you. |

Full Metal Panic (not super hero, per se. also has mecha). Get Backers (esp. if you like Black Cat). Shakugan no Shana (if you don't mind a female protagonist). Bleach. Wolf's Rain. Yozakura Quartet. GTO. and Beet the Vandal Buster. Some of them fall harder on the cynical side, and a few are further out there, but I hope a few work for you. pinkydo77 wrote: Spoiler Alert! Anyway, just recommend me your favorites! Little Busters! just came out, it's the newest Key series (the guys who did CLANNAD and Kanon). Spice and Wolf is excellent. Daughter of 20 faces might work, though it's a bit dark in places. Allison & Lillia is a definite. I'd also suggest Usagi Drop, Papa Kiki, Asu no Yoichi (aka. Samurai Harem). Also Himawari (though the animation's kinda gonky.) A little less lighthearted would be Kamisama no Memochou (esp. if you like Gosick). And I'll top it off by suggesting Hayate no Gotoku. You're possibly thinking of Angelic Layer? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angelic_Layer?vm=r&s=1 Might I also suggest Usagi Drop? It's fairly recent (and on Crunchyroll) about a guy who adopts his 6-year old aunt. And, well... I'll just link it. http://www.crunchyroll.com/usagi-drop Anyway, it's charming enough. I've PMed someone I think may know better about whether Angelic Layer would be ok for a 5-year-old (I've not seen it.) Hopefully she'll be along shortly. |

I've been looking for this type of anime/cartoon/movie forever, but its hard since its not a specific genre itself. The type of show I'm trying to find is an action basted one where there are tragic incidents witnessed by many people live or through television or something similar, including the death of the main protaganist/super-hero/ or just main character whether they were "good" or not like in Code Geass.
Or just shows where a dramatic battle is televised and seen by an entire populace, I like big dramatic action filled shows, Code Geass, Gurren Lagann, Soul Eater, Bleach, Naruto, Doom, Angel Beats was good, Yu Yu Hakusho, Gundam Wing, 00 Gundam, and obviously DBZ are my favorite shows. Any suggestions pertaining to the above would be greatly appreciated, I haven't found anything that I really like aside from SAO for a long time. |

Any suggestions pertaining to the above would be greatly appreciated, I haven't found anything that I really like aside from SAO for a long time. Since you've had difficulty trying to find a genre to describe them, may I suggest an alternate trick? Have you heard about TVTropes.org before? They catalog various... well, tropes, allowing you to search by series and trope, and cross-reference them. I might suggest you either start with a series. Perhaps Code Geass? http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Anime/CodeGeass?from=Main.CodeGeass Or tropes that might relate vaguely to what you want: Cruel Twist Ending http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CruelTwistEnding Esoteric Happy Ending: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EsotericHappyEnding Anyone Can Die: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AnyoneCanDie Those are three that occurred to me. Obviously, the biggest drawback is potential spoilers, so if you really hate that, it may not be for you. There was one I was trying to recall where a televised battle wound up being literally the crux of the climax, but I can't recall. It might have been Coyote Ragtime Show. Or Solty Rei? Some vaguely sci-fi series with cybernetics. |
