Post Reply Recommend me an Anime! **Read First Post!**

I like a variety of anime but I tend to graviate toward shoujo, comedies, and shouen. I don't typically like fanservice, ecchi gets annoying, hentai, seriously long anime (like 60-100+ episodes), magical (either witch or vampire--the cute or marvelously handsome kind (ex. Vampire Knight) or magical academies or magical girl--but I do love Sailor Moon and like Princess Tutu), SPORTS especially, mecha, or card-playing. Shouen-ai/yaoi and shoujo-ai/yuri don't bother me in the slightest. Psychological thrillers like Death Note and Monster and Durarara! entice me. Fantasy doesn't bother me. Male harems are okay. Sci-fi depends but I usually like them.

I like realistic anime, especially in my shoujo which I know is hard to come by. I don't want the most popular guy in the school/grade/class going after the quiet or shy or perhaps "emo" chick for no reason and I don't want their relationship to one big metaphor of making said girl more "normal"--i.e. more social, make friends, stop being "so uptight". Examples of these anime are Say "I Love You" and Kimi ni Todoke. DO NOT recommend me anime like these!

I also like my shounen to be a bit bloody and "scary" and usually has a more supernatural--not always fantasy--feel too. Devil May Cry, Claymore, Blood+, InuYasha are examples. I've also seen Samurai Champloo, GTO, Code Geass, Black Jack, Get Backers, Black Blood Brothers, Baccano!, Air Gear, Black Cat, Gantz, Heat Guy J, AKIRA, Shigurui, Cowboy Bebop, and Ghost in the Shell.

Since you weren't very specific in what you like or what you're asking for (though, I may have been too specific in my request above you...), I don't know how much you would like any of these anime.

Shounen-Action-Fighting
Samurai Champloo
Yu Yu Hakusho (This anime is kinda old but it's still a good old school anime)
Samurai 7
Blood+ (This anime has a female protagonist and great story)
One Piece
InuYasha (This is a fantasy/supernatural anime that has a "gotta catch 'em all" story line)
AKIRA (This is an awesome anime movie that is extremely confusing)
Deadman Wonderland (Sort of new but think they just took it off Crunchyroll sadly)
Devil May Cry (Gory and has lots of guns, blood, and demons)
Claymore (Another female protagonist anime but still has great fighting)
Afro Samurai
Samurai Deeper Kyo (?)

Just got into anime and wondering what ones would fit these descriptions. Some things im looking for

-Main Character has a demon (Some inner force or something that considered dangerous that happens to him) Ex: Hollow inside ichigo, 9-tail fox in naruto, Kazuki Muto has a Black Kakugane in him.

-Main character started out as a normal person and turned into the hero

-Usually has a companion with the main character EX: ichigo - Rukia, Kazuki Muto - Tokiko Tsumura

-Fighting with swords and special powers Ex: Ichigo - bankai and getsugatensho (cant spell ), Tokiko Tsumura - sword skirt, Naruto - Kunai and rasengan

-Character starts off pretty weak and greats stronger as the show progresses.

-Usually fights in situations he is out matched and wins cause hes more determined

Ones ive watched:
-Naruto
-bleach
-Buso Renkin

P.S ive enjoyed all of those so if u think i would enjoy one similar to those just say so thanks

I think that you may enjoy Sword Art Online. Really awesome epic fights, a hero with cool skills, and it takes place in a unique setting.

Also try Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple. About a boy who gets picked on a lot at school who ends up becoming a disciple to a group of expert martial artists. It has a lot of cool fight scenes, emphasis on a lot of different martial arts, and it's also pretty funny.

I'm looking for some new animes. I just got into watching them last year & it's like a drug.

I really enjoyed Elfen Lied & School Days. I guess you would classify them as psychological animes. I just really enjoy ones with romance & them being in school for some reason.

Good evening everyone. Since its Christmas and I have some spare money its time to do my bit for anime. So I'm going to order some series, I really don't know what to get though. I'm going to buy Baccano! and Akira, Baccano because I've never seen it but I'm sure I'll enjoy it and Akira because I loved that film but watched it fansubbed a few years ago when I was first getting into anime so I want to buy it on principal.

Past that I'm open to suggestions, ideally from Amazon (have a few gift vouchers from there), DVD format. I'm in the UK so it'd have to be amazon.co.uk. Other than baccano! and Akira I'm looking at:

'The girl who leapt through time': I've never heard of it but its £3 so might be worth a punt.
5 Centimetres per second: Looks like something I could really enjoy
Rin, Daughters of Mnemosyne: Apparently a violent screwed up anime
Beck: Im more likely to buy this off CR since I can get the whole series in 1 go rather than have to buy 5 parts
Another: I cant actually find this anime for sale DVD wise, could be me being inept though
Steins;Gate: I study Maths and Theoretic Physics, I need to see this at some point. Again, cant find for a reasonable price (only US imports for 60 quid (100 dollars))

Things I dont want to buy:
Eva 1.11 and 2.22: Loved these films but I was going to wait until all 4 are out and buy them together.
Redline: Already own it, is badass
Welcome to the NHK: First anime I bought after watching, great stuff

Things that I'm watching/Watched recently and enjoyed:

Shin Sekai Yori (from the new world): Absolutely love the dark suspense and mystery around this
Natsyuki Rendezvous: probably the closest I've come to crying watching anything
Say 'I love you': I don't know why. This just hits a chord in me
Ambition of Oda Nobuna and total eclipse: I put these here because I enjoyed them but I don't actually think they're very good anime
Hunter x Hunter I watched the original and I love the remake
Pet girl of Sakura hall: just something a bit silly
Kids on a slope: until the ending I adored this series. If only it had an extra 2 episodes and could do the proper manga ending
Blast of tempest: probably one of the best shonen I've seen
X/1999: it was a long time ago but I enjoyed this immensely
Hiiro no kakera: I'm only a few episodes in but it seems interesting at the moment, also helps that the girl looks like Mei
Fate/Zero: does anyone not like this?
Eva: Probably my favourite anime ever

So, suggestions. I'm more than willing to buy off CR if it's cheaper. Only thing is the shipping is expensive. £5 per item, that's often getting towards 40% of the cost of a series, which is a bit much really (That is, unless that's shipping the whole order and I'm mistaken)

hpulley Apologies, we seem to share some tastes so I was wondering If I could get some recommendations off you. If you have the time that is.

Thanks all,
Mike

Absolutely fate zero.
I would say that the second Avatar arc is worth a go too, legend of korra. I actually enjoyed it alot more than the original
If you havent seen the Kenshin OVAs then do it, they are amazing. I believe they're sometimes called Samurai X?
Eva 2 goes without saying.
I would also say Hunter x Hunter, you have alot of shonen in there and I really do believe HxH is the pinnacle of shonen.

Shin Sekai Yori (From the new world) has those themes, the first episode has alot of elfen lied themes. Stick with it, whilst the characters seem young (so young serious relationships would be a bit creepy), time skips and such goes on.

Evangelion is a bit like marmite (love or hate) but if you want psychological give it a go, romance is a bit stunted in it but the psychological is there

We share some traits it seems. I would recommend the following;

X/1999, old but gold. Bloody fighting and voilence abound. Make sure you go for the series (24 episode) rather than the film. The films a bit like EVA:Death and Rebirth, a summary of things.
Natsyuki Rendezvous: Simply a very mature, grown up romance story. If the ending doesnt touch you, I claim you have no heart!
Maybe Rurouni Kenshin would fit the bill too, personally I'm not a real fan of the series (alot of episodes and no real violence) but the OVAs (Sometimes called Samurai X) are fantastic and blood filled.

Hi, I'm looking for some anime suggestions. I'm looking for more action orientated anime. I'm not a huge fan of mecha anime and I tend to like more BONES type anime style of fight scenes, fluid and well animated. (dbz repeating frames, single frame action scenes, and other badly done action styles kind of make me lose interest.)

My favorite animes would be
Ergo Proxy (I enjoy dark themed or intellectually driven animes, even if the action is slower),
Naruto (I like the struggle and emotional situations of naruto, plus I've followed it for so long; it's just one I watch regularly.)
FLCL (I do enjoy comedy action if its well animated and interesting but I tend to like tragedies or animes that draw out emotional feelings)
and darker than black (One of my favorite, a lot of elements fit an ideal anime. While not being my favorite, definitely one of the animes I've really ejoyed.)

I've seen most of the staple animes for shounen, like naruto, bleach, fma, dbz (don't like), one piece (can't get past the art style), fairy tale, etc, etc.

Whether or not the anime series is long or short isn't really a concern, in fact a nice long one would be great but sometimes it takes several seasons to invest deeply in the characters. So, I tend to not give longer series the proper chance unless it really can draw you in early.

The more mature the better, although I'm not a gorefan, I don't dislike it either but I don't require blood to enjoy an anime. I like darker themes and more emotional animes. I can't get interested in sports animes, like the king of tennis, etc. I like hand to hand, sword or sci fi aspects of fighting.

Thanks for the help!

<edit> one last thing not a huge fan of ecchi presence in an anime. Gantz is about as much as I tolerate.
