Hi, I'm looking for some anime suggestions. I'm looking for more action orientated anime. I'm not a huge fan of mecha anime and I tend to like more BONES type anime style of fight scenes, fluid and well animated. (dbz repeating frames, single frame action scenes, and other badly done action styles kind of make me lose interest.)

My favorite animes would be
Ergo Proxy (I enjoy dark themed or intellectually driven animes, even if the action is slower),
Naruto (I like the struggle and emotional situations of naruto, plus I've followed it for so long; it's just one I watch regularly.)
FLCL (I do enjoy comedy action if its well animated and interesting but I tend to like tragedies or animes that draw out emotional feelings)
and darker than black (One of my favorite, a lot of elements fit an ideal anime. While not being my favorite, definitely one of the animes I've really ejoyed.)

I've seen most of the staple animes for shounen, like naruto, bleach, fma, dbz (don't like), one piece (can't get past the art style), fairy tale, etc, etc.

Whether or not the anime series is long or short isn't really a concern, in fact a nice long one would be great but sometimes it takes several seasons to invest deeply in the characters. So, I tend to not give longer series the proper chance unless it really can draw you in early.

The more mature the better, although I'm not a gorefan, I don't dislike it either but I don't require blood to enjoy an anime. I like darker themes and more emotional animes. I can't get interested in sports animes, like the king of tennis, etc. I like hand to hand, sword or sci fi aspects of fighting.

Thanks for the help!

<edit> one last thing not a huge fan of ecchi presence in an anime. Gantz is about as much as I tolerate.

Have you seen SAO yet? That sounds like it would be up your alley.

Finished the first episode. Really enjoyed it, thank you for the suggestion. Reading about it, I wasn't initially interested in it because of the MMO atmosphere but it gives itself an edge with the story right from the get-go. Thanks again for the good suggestion!

Edit: Wow, yah, it gets serious quick. Good stuff.

Just got into anime and wondering what ones would fit these descriptions. Some things im looking for

-Main Character has a demon (Some inner force or something that considered dangerous that happens to him) Ex: Hollow inside ichigo, 9-tail fox in naruto, Kazuki Muto has a Black Kakugane in him.

-Main character started out as a normal person and turned into the hero

-Usually has a companion with the main character EX: ichigo - Rukia, Kazuki Muto - Tokiko Tsumura

-Fighting with swords and special powers Ex: Ichigo - bankai and getsugatensho (cant spell ), Tokiko Tsumura - sword skirt, Naruto - Kunai and rasengan

-Character starts off pretty weak and greats stronger as the show progresses.

-Usually fights in situations he is out matched and wins cause hes more determined

Ones ive watched:
-Naruto
-bleach
-Buso Renkin

P.S ive enjoyed all of those so if u think i would enjoy one similar to those just say so thanks

Blood+ totally fits your description almost to a T, but it's about a girl though and not the sterotypical shounen male leads. She's some sort of vampire thing (if I could spell it I would) and she is "awaken" to fulfill her duty as "Queen". It's not a long anime (50 episodes), but personally, it has a great story, and don't worry there's plenty of fights (the main character fights with a katana). She starts out not accepting her duty for obvious reasons (she was just an ordinary Japanese girl living in Okinawa with her adoptive family after all), and after someone dying (I won't spoil it ) she finally sums up the courage to fight and eventually grows a lot stronger as the series goes on.

Yu Yu Hakusho may not fit all of your descriptions but it does have the special powers and demon aspects.
InuYasha can also be considered, but the characters don't usually start out weak with the exception of Kagome. Whether she is considered the "main" main character is up to debate at times. Also, there is no "inner demon" thing because most characters are demons!
Deadman Wonderland should be the poster boy for characters starting off pretty weak and then grow stronger.
Claymore is a stretch, but I think if you like the story the rest won't matter.

The Vision of Escaflowne is a good one I think. It's mecha, but actually a good one with even a better romance story. It's kinda old so the art style is sort of strange, but don't let that throw you off!
Claymore has hints and shades but not full blown romance.
My-HiME is a magical girls series (expect not along the lines of Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew OR Shugo Chara!) that has romance in it.
Tsubasa Chronicle
Saiyuki
Beserk
Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~

Accel World is the closest anime to Sword Art Online because it's all about virtual realities and full dive systems set in the future. The main story is set in 2046 an it in the SAME UNIVERSE as SAO so its quite similar. Some say that the main character Kuroyukihime is the daughter of Kirito and Asuna as according to the setting and the ages of all three characters - Asuna would be 27 and Kirito 26 when they had her *giggdy.

REQUEST
I'm looking for a new romance anime to watch.

Shows that I liked:
Nana/Paradise Kiss/ Neighborhood Story
Princess Jellyfish
His and Her Circumstances
Kimi ni Todoke
Toradora
-Mysterious Girlfriend X

Stuff I don't like:
-harems
-Key anime (Clannad, Kanon, Air, etc). They are unnecessarily tragic and something about the character designs creep me out. I think it's the eyes. I don't mind a tragic love story, though.
-I would prefer something not set in high school, but I'd be willing to try it even if it is set in high school.
-Not really into yaoi, yuri, incest, or hentai

I'm watching Say I Love You and My Little Monster this season and they are pretty good.

Cromartie High School- a high school full of delinquents
Sgt. Frog- Alien frogs try to take over the world. Lots of pop culture references
Gintama- Aliens and Samurai and comedy? Not sure how to describe it but it's funny
My Ordinary Life- My favorite comedy!
Arakawa Under the Bridge- weird comedy about weird homeless people who live under a bridge.
Lucky Star
Azumanga Daioh
Ouran Host Club- Kinda girly but hilarious and heartwarming.

These are all the ones I like other than what you already listed:

Itazura na Kiss - Pretty decent straight romance anime with a likable female lead and a tsundere male lead. Less than half of the story is in high school.

Nodame Cantabile- More slice of life and music than romance. But there is a sizable romantic subplot that develops over the course of the series. Takes place in college and beyond.

Lovely Complex - A nice high school romantic comedy about a tall girl and short boy.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama - A well made high school romantic comedy about a student body president who works at a maid cafe.

Ouran High School Host Club - Really fun to watch lightly reverse harem romantic comedy.

Marmalade Boy - Early 90's high school romance anime. Sort of the archetype for a lot of others in the genre, a little lengthy and melodramatic but not bad.

Can you add the following anime:
-Akikan
-Darker than Black
-Soul Eater
-The Legend of the Legendary Heroes

It's okay if you can't add all of them.
Atleast add more romantic comedies like:
-The World God Only Knows
-Happiness!
-Inu X Boku Secret Service
