I really like serious animes without all the campy/corny behaviors that IMO litter most animes
A little humor in them is ok, but I think what I'm asking for is a little bit of realism Not in the sense that there can't be magic or some alternate universe, just that it is very fitting to the world and feels real inside it I think Bebop did this pretty well, but anything anymore dark and gritty is welcome. |

If you want dark, gritty, and real watch Rainbow nisha rokubou no shichinin. It doesn't get much more dark and real than this series. Might be a a lot darker than what you were looking for though. It's about 7 teenaged boys trying to survive in post war Japan and its written by an old man who lived through that time period so its very realistic but dark! |

Try Mirrai Nikki, deals with a group of people who have to kill each other to become a god. As Goomoonryong said Rainbow is pretty good as well. |

Agree with High School of the Dead. The ecchi is a bit over the top at times but the story is actually good. The animations great and the girls are hot. Basically all the things you could want in an echhi anime. Honestly I would have liked it if the ecchi was toned down but its actually just being faithful to the source material. The manga is about to get started again soon, reportedly, so another season isn't impossible though I heard it wasn't as popular in Japan as it was here. |

I already am a huge HOTD fan, and I've watched all 12 episodes and the OVA, lol. But I agree with you about the storyline, animation, and characters. |

SUPER PIG!!!! lol Samurai Pizza Girls Ok I haven't watched either one, but the names sounded cool.... Slayers is really goofy Magic Knight Rayearth is ok for this time period Sailor Moon (not for me though) Martian Successor Nadesico has some funny parts There is some cop series with two women that I never really saw a lot of but saw some clips that were really funny. There is some guy with them that eventually gets turned into a vending machine robot and falls on his own head on accident (ok not my best review...) FLCL is pretty insane Those who hunt elves is loopy My favorite from this time period is Vampire Princess Miyu (I like the voice actress for the dubbed version) It isn't intended to be funny most of the time but sometimes it ends up being really funny (there is this boy who loves cats so much and sells his soul to a demon... for his kitty cat.... yeah hard to take that seriously). |
