Hey crunchyroll community, this is actually my first post in the forum. I finally shelled out for crunchyroll premium and have so many options I'm not sure where to go next.

I started by marathoning Durarara. I had caught an episode or two and just knew it would be right up my alley (loved it of course). The rest of these are shows I've loved and either own the box set or have watched by other means. Anyone have a must watch for my next one?

My fav list:
Planetes, FLCL, Gurren Lagann, Bebop, Miyazaki (most of them), Kino no tabi, Gundam 00, Haruhi, Death Note, Mushi-shi (gotta finish this one), Code Geass Ss1, Dragonball, Black Lagoon, Martian Successor Nadesico, Durarara

My "solid" list:
NOIEN, Eden of the East, Eyeshield 21, Naruto, Bleach, Elfen Lied, Fullmetal Alchemist, Kenshin, Code Geass Ss 2, Spice and Wolf (gotta finish this too ><), Trigun, Evangelion

Guilty Pleasures:
Ouran High School Host Club, Love Hina, DBZ, Inuyasha, Sailor Moonu

Sorry if this was a really irritating first post, I just feel like some really good stuff is slipping through the cracks

For current simulcasts I strongly recommend Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet and Attack on Titan. I know at least one other has already recommended those, and if you've read the forums at all you're probably aware they are popular (and for good reason). So anyway, let me add a bit of weight to that recommendation.

Hmmm. Trying to come up with a good catalog recommendation. In what you've listed I've only seen Durarara (one of my favorites!) and Naruto.

Okay, here's my favorite thing to recommend and I don't think it's entirely out of line with what you've mentioned liking: Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo. Yes, it is that Count of Monte Cristo, but told from a different point of view. Plus it has space ships and mecha!

One of my guilty pleasures: Omamori Himari. It's not great, but it was fun, if you don't object to ecchi.

Death Note begins during high school before moving on to college. The first season is great.

Durarara!! has romantic undertones that impact what people do, but no actual dating story arcs to speak of.

Kamisama no Memo-chou/God's Memo Pad/Heaven's Notebook is also relatively romance free.

There's a blossoming romance that plays into the final story arc significantly, but it's not dwelled on much before then. It's also part of the twist, which isn't much of a spoiler. But I don't want to actually spoil it because it's executed superbly.

I'm also highly fond of Bakuman which is about two high school kids who get jobs in the manga industry.

It's a fascinating inside look, although more technical information went into the manga than the anime.

I'm in the mood for something less actiony at the moment. Something well done, perhaps a lice of life or romance or something.
Ex:
5 Centimeters per Second
A Place Promised in out Early Days
Clannad (and After Story)
Kanon
Little Busters!
Ano Natsu de Matteru
Ano Hana

Sasameki Koto
Toradora

Just finished Ep 5 of 'Attack on Titan', what are some good, similar shows to fill time between future updates?

For reference, I also enjoyed Angel Beats, Death Note, and Darker than Black.

If you're looking for a comedy (that isn't feminine), I would recommend Great Teacher Onizuka. It essentially takes a shonen hero and drops him into a high school. It's crazy funny and sometimes surprisingly emotive. It can also peddle some strange masculinity stuff, but that doesn't overshadow the good time, in my opinion.

If a less comedic route is desired, then... I got nothin'. Most of the shows I've seen in high school are either romantic or comedic; that setting doesn't seem to lend itself to much else, I guess. Hell, if anyone has recommendations for me on that note, I'd be curious.
___________

As for myself, I'm looking for recommendations on a smart show with developed characters and a definite endpoint. Moreover, I'm looking for something that proceeds with alacrity and vivacity. For examples, I'm looking for a show like Tatami Galaxy, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, The Woman Named Fujiko Mine, or Kare Kano,* rather than a show like Serial Experiments Lain or Neon Genesis Evangelion (not to take away from those more somber shows).

*So, I guess one half of those shows don't have a definite end point, but tonally that's what I'm getting at. Something vivacious, damn it!

Someone thereafter mentioned His and Her Circumstances, and YES, you should totally watch that. Brilliant show.

I would also recommend Aoi Hana, as it's a subtle and well-done examination of an emotionally complex time.

The author of the original manga for Aoi Hana also wrote something called Wandering Son, which was adapted into one of the best show's I've ever seen. I couldn't recommend Wandering Son more highly, as it is a careful and empathetic analysis of a complicated subject (much like Aoi Hana, and not by coincidence).

Usagi Drop is another good one, just don't read about the end, or the manga at all. It totally changes the entire vibe of the show. Seriously, it's a trap.

BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad is a well-reputed coming-of-age story, with about the best rock Japan can offer while still singing it in sorta crappy English.

If you can handle a lot of subtitles, try Tatami Galaxy. It's got some of the most fascinating art in anime, and, at least for this college student, one of the truest of tales.

Dude, Haruhi Suzumiya. Get on that.

I know there's a thousand other shows drifting in the back of my head, as I usually tend towards this direction as well - I'm not partial to most action stuff (ironically, because of the dialogue). I hope you check out some of these shows and, of course, like them as much as I did.

Hi ya... if you haven't seen any these, check out a couple episodes from each. Enjoy!

- Blue Exorcist [http://www.crunchyroll.com/blue-exorcist]

Assiah, the realm of humans, and Gehenna, the realm of demons. Normally, these two dimensions would never intersect, but the demons are now intruding on the material world.

- BTOOOM! [http://www.crunchyroll.com/btooom]

Sakamoto Ryota still has no job at age 22, and leads a rather dull life. But in the online game, BTOOOM!, he's stronger and more highly respected than anyone else. However, the game he's playing now is no longer virtual, but real. He's been sent to a deserted island with only a BIM supply and no clue why he's being coerced into fighting and killing. The players are now stuck in a real life version of BTOOOM!, not even knowing the reason why.

- Linebarrels of Iron [http://www.crunchyroll.com/linebarrels-of-iron]

Fourteen-year-old Kouichi Hayase’s life has always been a mediocre one, if not dismal. However, those days of being bullied by classmates and escaping to a fantasy of being a hero are put to an end when a certain “accident” bestows on him a girl and a gigantic humanoid robot called “LINEBARREL”.

- Tegami Bachi Letter Bee [http://www.crunchyroll.com/tegami-bachi-letter-bee]

Gauche Suede is on his last delivery before a big promotion. In the outskirts of Yodaka, the darkest area of Amberground, Gauche is surprised to find that the package is a young boy named Lag Seeing. Lag had been traumatized by his mother's abduction and is due to be delivered to his aunt. In this remote area rife with Gaichuu, Lag and Gauche face a dangerous journey that inspires Lag to become a Letter Bee.

- The Tower of DRUAGA -the Aegis of URUK- [http://www.crunchyroll.com/the-tower-of-druaga-the-aegis-of-uruk-]

The long awaited “Summer of Anu” has come. It is a season that comes but once every few years and during which the powers of the monsters within the Tower wane thanks to the grace of the great god Anu. Each Summer of Anu, the armies of the Uruk Kingdom secure their strongholds within the Tower, aiming to eventually conquer the upper floors. Decades of re-fortification and battle have passed since the infamous adventures of Gil and Ki.

Their story has now become a legend. Now, finally, the third Summer of Anu has arrived. The city of Meskia - the first stronghold built on the first level of the Tower - is brimming with unprecedented expectation. In addition to the Uruk Army, preparing for their third campaign against Druaga, innumerable adventurers have been drawn to Meskia by rumors of a legendary treasure believed to be hidden on the top floor of the Tower..

Hmmm.... I don't see this in your list, but have you checked out Natsume Yujin-cho: [http://www.crunchyroll.com/natsume-yujin-cho]

Natsume Takashi has the ability to see spirits, which he has long kept secret. However, once he inherits a strange book that belonged to his deceased grandmother, Reiko, he discovers the reason why spirits surround him.

Nice slice of life with a bit of mystical tossed in.

Oreshura is somewhat interesting: [http://www.crunchyroll.com/oreshura]

The protagonist, Eita Kidou, is a high school freshman with excellent grades and a disdain for love. He used to live a regular school life with his childhood friend, Chiwa Harusaki, a girl who's nearly a sister to him, but then one day the school's most beautiful girl, Masuzu Natsukawa, confesses to him. However, her true desire is only to fool the eyes of others and pretend to be a couple. With a certain secret of his in Masuzu's hands, Eita is forced to play along… But a fierce battle over Eita begins as his ex-girlfriend, Himeka, and his fiancé, Ai, join the fray!!”

It's a "harem" show, but somewhat well done with a bit of a twist to it.

I always liked Moribito [http://www.crunchyroll.com/moribito]

She carries the pain of eight souls. He carries the burden of one sacred spirit. At a time when the balance of nature still held the civilizations of mankind in thrall, a single drought could spell the end of a society and doom its inhabitants to piteous deaths. Prince Chagum has been imbued with the power to stave off the drought and bring new life to his empire. However, this is a suspicious time, and he is accused of possession by an evil spirit.

Court advisors only see one solution. Chagum must be put to death by his own father's hand. His salvation is in the form of Balsa, a spear woman and mercenary from Kanbal, the kingdom across the mountains. Her skills are legendary, and although reluctant, she is held by a mysterious vow to save eight souls before she dies. Can she fend off an entire empire and make Chagum her eighth soul?

The lead female, Balsa, is awesome. Great character... and refreshing in that she's quite strong willed and skilled.

/Edit: just remembered that Moribito has some action in it (fighting). May not fit your criteria exactly.
