I'd add Kokoro Connect.

Eden of the East, Durarara!!, and Heaven's Memo Pad come to mind but their romance is more subtextual.

And have you seen any of Makoto Shinkai's films? They're not dark so much as bittersweet.

5 Centimeters Per Second.
Voices of a Distant Star.
The Place Promised in our Early Days.

Kokoro Connect is a great anime, one of my favorites and I guess it is kind of dark. Eden of the East and Durarara to be honest, I got bored quickly. 5 Centimeters Per Second was a great anime but it left a bad taste in my mouth so the other two movies have been sitting on my to be watched later when I'm in the mood list. I will definitely check out Heavens Memo Pad, it looks good so thank you for that one.

Denpa looks really good too

There is another show that I started watching but have since forgotten the name. It was about if people meet their doppelgangers, which was themselves from a parallel world, they would end up dying violently. For the life of me I just can't find it again so if someone knows please tell me.

Anyway, thanks again.

Give Jellyfish Princess a shot, all episodes subbed are on youtube. Summary of it sounds cheesy, but it's a gem of a romance anime.
Also Toradora and Hiyokoi.

That sounds like Kurokami The Animation. I can't find any legal streams for it though.

You must like Jellyfish Princess a lot. Sorry, it made me chuckle that you requested one similar and then recommended it. Anyway, if you're still looking for something else I would recommend Mysterious Girlfriend X, you may have seen it but has a unique take on romance based on drool. Another one that's not too serious for most of the series is Tayautama: Kiss on my Diety. It's kind of generic harem, low on ecchi, but I actually enjoyed it and it manages to pull off a couple of good romantic scene given it's genre. Karin or Chibi Vampire is another rom-com where this time it's the girl that gets the nosebleeds, explosive nosebleeds when she gets close to the boy she likes. I have the same problem that you do. I've watched so many romance anime that it's getting harder to find more that I like. Anyway, hope those help.

Yes, that's the one, thank you. I had a copy of the dvd a while back but no longer, can't find it anywhere online that's legal either.

Hmm so I'm looking for an anime based in Highschool for some reason it makes any anime better ( personal opinion )
Preferably with a bit of romance
Some action
The protagonist is hiding something like a hidden power or such
A dark anime like Elfen lied

Not all those have to be in the anime but would be ideal for me if they were all there!
The closest thing I can think of is rosario vampire or Campione

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi.

Two warnings:

1) The first season aired out of order. Chronologically it's 2-3-5-10-13-14-4-7-6-8-1-12-11-9.
2) The Endless Eight arc in the second season is mental; you can skip to the last episode if you're inclined.

You can choose to watch the first season in either order based on personal preference.

After the anime track down the movie The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi, as it's basically amazing.

It doesn't have nearly as much impact if you haven't seen both seasons of the anime, though. You need the context. In many ways it's comparable to how Neon Genesis Evangelion was connected to the movie End of Evangelion.

Although I think any comparison between NGE and Haruhi stops right there.

Some others would be:

CR: Kokoro Connect (meets pretty much every one of your qualifications).
Hulu: Eden of the East (after high school, but has a very similar vibe).
Hulu: Heaven's Memo Pad (involves high school students predominantly).
CR: Bakemonogatari (another one that has pretty much everything you want).
CR: Durarara!! (the unusual lives of unusual people; including several high school students).

DRRR!! is paced pretty slowly, but the characters are to die for once you get to know them. But in case you need a bit of a tease to watch past the first couple episodes, like I did, click here (spoiler for one of the character arcs):

I don't think I've ever seen anyone put Elfen lied in the same category as Rosario Vampire or Campione! before.

Haha! Yes I really do like it, it was a refreshing story, but after weeks of anime marathons I'm pretty burned up and can't really find anything interesting to watch anymore. Anyways, I've already watched all the ones you recommended, mysterious girlfriend x made me gag, haha but thanks a lot for the effort!

Hm from what I've heard Welcome to NHK is pretty good, there's also that relatively recent anime, Red Data Girl if you haven't seen it.

Thanks ill be sure to check them out I started suzumiya before but I never got exited by it so stopped around 3/4 way through haha, you were a great help :D

A good anime is the same to me wether its ripping people's heads of with invisible hands or using a huge boar to destroy Italy I have a strong stomach so nothing affects me!! Although I do prefer when it's bloody and evil it gets me exited

Ah come on, Mysterious Girlfriend X was was great and you have to admit the concept was rather unique. Anyway, I'm happy to help any time I just don't really watch shows like Princess Jellyfish, the only other ones I can think of is My Bride is a Mermaid and Akane iro ni Somaru Saka. The only thing about Akane is that one of the potential love interests may or may not be blood related. Yakoe Mae yori Ruriiro na was good too and I just thought of Chunibyo Demo Koi ga Shita!. I loved that show and there is a second season coming

Anyway, I'm not really one to do this but, if you want to PM some other time or buddy me that's fine. Or if you just mention other genres that you like I might be able to find something you'd like. Anyway, thanks for your suggestions as well.

Well, it sounds like you enjoy mystery and psychological aspects to your anime. You might want to try Monster, Psycho-Pass, or Deadman Wonderland.

Hey guys, I've recently been getting into anime and am having trouble finding a new series to watch and need some suggestions. Below I will list the series that i have already watched organised into groups, these groups being; 'Favorites', 'Enjoyed a lot', 'Enjoyed' and 'Didn't enjoy so much'.

Code Geass, Steins Gate, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Shakugon No Shana Part 1 & 2, Elfen Lied, Cowboy Bebop, Angel Beats, Death Note

Clannad & Clannad Afterstory, Hataraku Maou-sama Dragon Ball and DBZ, The Familiar of Zero (Zero No Tsukaima), Neon Genesis Evangelion Shakugon No Shana part 3, High School DxD

Dragon Ball GT, High School of the Dead, Tenchi Muyo

A few notes: I'm not too fond of gory violence, Elfen lied is an exception (Neon genesis as well to some extent) as I felt that the violence was "justified"(if that's the right word?) and not just for the sake of it. I have separated Shakugon No Shana part 3 and Dragon Ball GT from their counterparts as I thought that they were poorly thought out compared to the others.

What I'm after in the series is something with a solid, well thought out story line, good characters/character development. I don't mind if the series is ongoing or finished but i don't like unnecessary fillers which don't contribute ANYTHING to the story. Some of the genres i like are: Romance, action, comedy, adventure and fantasy.

TL;DR Look at the list (in groups of favorite to least favorite) and suggest anime series that you think I may like.

If you feel like it could you also add a sentence or two on why you like/would recommend the series. Also, feel free to ask any questions if things need clarifying.

Thanks in advance! :)

Info bomb in 3, 2, 1...

Here's a few that I enjoyed watching and have continued to sit well with me after I finished them. Also, I'm assuming that those listed above might be the extent of what you've seen. Some of these that I'm recommending are pretty widely known, but that's all the more reason you should hurry up and watch them so certain stories won't be spoiled for you.

Mirai Nikki - Basically, a sorry loser of a dude gets a super-powered cell phone and gets thrust into a 12 - person battle royale to the death. The things I like about the show are its sense of momentum (I watched all of it in like 4 days) and its really nice cast of side-characters. Plus, you get to experience the all-time best psycho girlfriend anime has to offer.

A Certain Magical Index/A Certain Scientific Railgun - Umm, I'm afraid you won't find a solid, well thought out storyline here lol, but for some reason I really enjoy watching these shows, and I'm currently on the second season of Railgun. I love the characters in it and I love the setting of Academy City where it all takes place. It's pretty good at avoiding certain cliches that you would typically find in a shonen action show. Plus, you get: epic punches, superpowers, a main character that's actually awesome, and Mikoto Misaka (my avatar). It's by the same studio that did Shakugan no Shana.

The World God Only Knows - Starts out with a kind of lame premise, where a guy who likes dating-sim games is forced to make girls fall in love with him in the real world, but instead of getting a shallow fanservice-fest, you get a really nice heartwarming show with an awesome main character. This show was a big surprise for me.

Oreimo - Same as above, it's another surprisingly good and well-written romantic comedy. Don't let the premise scare you away, either. There are some bonus episodes between seasons 1 and 2 that you'll need to watch to get the full story, but they aren't on Crunchyroll.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - It's hard to explain this show without giving away some juicy spoilers. If you can bull through the first episode and get to the second, you won't regret it. It's pretty infamous, but also very influential and one of my favorites. It's a nice genre-buster anime.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica - Lots of people called it the best anime of 2011. Again, hard to explain without spoilers, but it comes highly recommended. There's a great story along with some great artwork.

Bakemonogatari - The premise of this show is essentially: A guy who was recently cured of vampirism meets various girls with supernatural problems and helps them solve them. But that doesn't really give you a good idea of what kind of show it is. It's a show that is happiest when betraying your expectations. It's very strange, deranged, and unique, above all. You won't find another show like it anywhere. It's funny when it needs to be, it's scary, it can be happy or sad. And there's even one particular scene where it can be all of these at the same time. I think it's something like one of the best selling anime series of all time, if that's any indicator.

Alright, there's seven or eight for you to add to the list. Keep in mind not to expect too much when watching any of these shows, even if I say they're good. There's nothing worse than being disappointed by hype. If you want, you can look at the 2012 BATTLE thread to see which shows were well received from last year. I didn't put any from that thread so you can go and explore.

Sorry if it's a bit overwhelming. I kinda got carried away Anyone of those shows is good watching, though.

TvTropes.org is a great place to research any given anime show, if you don't know about it.

Here are three good ones that are currently airing on Crunchyroll:
Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet
Attack on Titan (This show might as well be compulsory watching at this point. It's amazing.)
