We love the Miyazaki films. I think we've seen everyone in the list you provided. I agree about Grave of the Fireflies, that one was very depressing. He loves My Neighbor Totoro. His mom likes to crochet and made him a Totoro, small white rabbit thing, and a soot sprite dolls. I will check out the other series' that you mentioned.

Sherlock Hound is also here on CR; I loved the hell out of this series when I was a kid.

Hayao Miyazaki was a chief director and several episodes were his work as well.

Cross Game is a brilliant suggestion from Ashharka - it's like baseball's version of Bridge to Terabithia. If your kids don't care for baseball, there may be times they get bored, but hell, I think baseball is brain-dead boring, and I loved that show.

They could watch Poyo Poyo, probably. That's a cute and goofy show, if I remember correctly.

Both Squid Girl and Sgt. Frog are safe comedies. Well, I haven't seen Sgt. Frog, but from what I've read, it's specifically kid-friendly. And I can only vouch for Squid Girl up to episode five or so, but, again, what I read suggested it was pretty safe.

Ah, watch Little Witch Academia! It's a recent OVA that's both totally PG and really well-done!

If you're looking for something with more punch than some of those other titles, you could probably get away with Princess Tutu. It's a meta-fiction fairytale, and I find it a great time thanks to its characters and its art design. Beware - it's a fairytale, which means there's plenty of emotional ups and downs, as well as fighting, but it's nothing crazier than what you find in Snow White. Seriously though, the main character in this show is hilarious and heart-warming; I'm working through it now, and I highly recommend it.

There's a review site that actually has a section on the bottom where recommend the show by age.

Someone recommended Revolutionary Girl Utena earlier, which is hands down one of my favorite shows, up there with Tatami Galaxy, Louie, and the Wire. I love that show. That said, if you're feeling shojo, it might be safer to start off with Sailor Moon. Seasons two through four actually had the same director as Revolutionary Girl Utena.

Thing about Revolutionary Girl Utena is that it's brilliantly steeped in a lot of themes that most children don't even have the chance to grasp. The things that show asserts on family, fairytale, school, and the broader patriarchy are incredibly interesting, but I've never heard a kid under ten whip out 'patriarchy' in conversation.

Now, Lord knows that doesn't really matter - a kid who watches Princess Mononoke might not join Green Peace after, but they still probably enjoyed the dickens out of that film. If something's super good, ya don't need to thematically comprehend it.

Thing is, Revolutionary Girl Utena, in the pursuit of its themes, gets damn erotic. Now, the first series of that show - the first twelve or thirteen episodes, I think, are pretty safe. But by episode thirty-seven, there have been a lot of dudes laying around with dudes or ladies.

Purplepanda - Guessing you may have seen these but Kimi ni Todoke, Clannad, and Kanon are all pretty good romance shows.

I'm just gonna give a little list, all of which I've seen and liked:
My Little Monster
The World God Only Knows
Nyarko-san: Another Crawling Chaos
Baka and Test
Oreimo
Toradora!
Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!
The Pet Girl of Sakurasou

All of these are on Crunchyroll, with the exception of Baka and Test (which is on Hulu and Funimation), and Chuunibyou (on The Anime Network as Love, Chunibyo, and Other Delusions, but TAN has a horrible streaming service sadly).

They're all pretty easy to watch, but the last 3 I listed can get more serious than the others.

As for Oreimo, I should say don't be scared away by the premise. It's a good anime disguised as a bad one, lol. Also, between season 1 and 2, there are three bonus episodes that you need to watch, so that you won't be confused at the beginning of season 2.

Anyway, please don't feel like you need to watch all of them, but I really don't think you could go wrong with any of them.

Looking for something with lots of action on Crunchyroll. Something similar to Attack on Titan or Sword Art Online. Thanks!

K; I'd definitely recommend them both although they're very different anime.

Fate/Zero is pretty dark and intense; it's a very character-driven drama with a lot of subtlety and manipulation. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is off-the-walls insanity and is basically a rollercoaster of dramatic emotional extremes.

So I guess the first is more intense, and the second is more crazy, but they're both quite serious in their own ways.

Hey guys, I've been looking for an animé to watch for a while but none I've come across recently have really interested me.

Out of those I have watched, the ones I've enjoyed the most have been (I've tried to rank in order of favouritism, but it's not quite perfect):

Death Note - Absolutely loved this show up until Near. I can't stop watching it, it's ridiculous how many times I've seen it.

Neon Genesis Evangelion (also the movies, I have been absolutely adoring them) - Either this or DN has to be my favourite. Probably DN though, I can't stop watching it every few months.

Code Geass (+R2) - Enjoyed this thoroughly, I'll probably be watching it again soon - though I did think they were pulling stuff out of their asses a little too often for me to enjoy it as thoroughly as, say, DN.

Sword Art Online - I watched this series upon release and enjoyed it enough to watch all of it again a couple of weeks ago. I found the VRMMO concept to be extremely interesting and thought the show's plot was good, though I also thought time advanced way too quickly. I read the Light Novel too after watching 'til the end of Aincrad, thought it was good enough until Gun Gale after which my interest pretty much dropped off a cliff.

Elfen Lied - I loved the darkness, the exploration into a broken mind, I thought this was an excellent anime

Everything below this point is, for me, a league below the animé I have listed there. Though I still enjoyed those below this point

DragonBall Z - Being born in the early 90s in the UK, this was pretty much my introduction to animé, and so will always have a place in my heart.

Ouran High School Host Club - I'm really not sure why I enjoy this show, I just do.

Naruto - Kinda meh about this, I stopped watching the animé some time ago as I never really got into it after Sasuke vs Itachi, but I've been following the manga for completion's sake. I really enjoyed it from the Chunin exams up to the Sasuke Retrieval Arc though, it's just fallen out of grace for me since.

Rave Master - I enjoyed this show for a time, when I was still new to animé, and still go back and revisit a couple of episodes now and then but it's not the deep love I have for those at the top of this list.

I've also tried watching One Piece, Bleach and Fairy Tale, but have found them to be a tad too Shonen for me. And, after several recommendations, I gave Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan a go, but got seriously bored after the second episode (usually I give shows I don't yet like a go beyond this point, but for some reason this series invoked in me a stifling, almost suffocating boredom I couldn't go on with.)

Enjoying the VRMMO aspect of SAO got me to watch a few episodes of Accel World, but it didn't manage to capture my imagination anywhere near as well as SAO did and I soon stopped with that also.

There are plenty of others, of course, but I can't really think of them off the top of my head.

Any help and recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
